A registration component

J L
I would like to create a demo version of my product by having a
"registrati on" component that would allow either a time limit or
number of executions use for demo purposes and then force the user to
register. I would like it to be PC sensitive so the user can not copy
from machine to machine after they receive the registration key.

In VB6 I used such a tool and it used the hard drive serial number in
some way to generate a unique signature.

Is there such a tool in vb.net. Hopefully free but if not, very
reasonably priced.

TIA,
John

One of my fellow developers closed Visual Studio, re-opened the same project and recieved this error "JIT Debugging component registration is incorrect". This happens anytime he tries to open a recent project. I created a new, simple project, build/run then close VS, reopen and all is fine. Now attempt to open one of his projects and it gets the "JIT Debugging component registration is incorrect". I have done some Googling without any real...

Hi, I'm new to C# and the windows world (I used to work on Java and *nix OSes). I'm using visual studio .net 2003. I'm working on a add-in application to be used under a software. I was able to settle the correct COM interface. Now I must register the software in the windows registry. Their documentation tells something:

I use COInitialize ,COCreateInstance and CoUninitialize to perform this. The method which contains this CoInitialize ,CoCreateInstace and CoUninitialize is called by a ATL DLL. Hi, I have a ATL Attributed DLL which exposes a COM Component. My requirement is, whenever, the DLL is registered, I also would like to add some entries to the HKLM/Softwares/CompanyName..... along with the Component registration. By default, when we create an attributed COM Component, it adds, vi_progid, progid, coclass, uuid, etc.. This is enough to register the component. But, I need to add additional registration information like...

I'm trying to more fully understand how .NET gets us out of dll hell by more clearly understanding what goes into the manifest and contrasting that with and what life was like before the manifest. Specifically, I would like to know why COM components need to be registered in the Windows System Registry. Registering COM components has been a fact of life that I've lived with but never really understood or questioned. Now .NET is here and...

Hi, I'm using the the MSDN sample "COM Interop Part 2 Sample" (CSharpServerWithCOMClient.sln). The C# COM component gets registered when the solution is built. Somehow the component doesn't get registered properly. When opened with OLE/COM Viewer the component throws up an error saying: "CoGetClassObject failed. The system cannot find the file specified. severity: SEVERITY_ERROR, facility: FACILITY_WIN32($80070002)"

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
