Copy data from ODBC data source to new Access table

Hi,

I'm converting an existing Access application to vb.net 2003.

The application allows users to select a number of tables from an ODBC data
source, and nominate names for each table to use in a local access table.
When they press the button, it deletes any local tables that exist and
recreates them using the new names, complete with current data.

In Access I loop through the list of tables and substitute the appropriate
names into this DAO query:

strSQL = "select * into " & tbl.tName & " from " & tbl.ODBCTName
Set qdf = db.CreateQueryD ef("", strSQL)
qdf.Execute

This automatically creates the new table and populates it.

I have everything working in my new application except this last step. I've
done a lot of googling and haven't found a clear description of how to do
this.

All the samples I've found seem to assume that you'll inspect the properties
of the ODBC table and build the new table specifying the column properties,
then load the data into a dataset and step through it one row at a time,
executing an Insert into the new table for each row.

Surely there's an easier way?

Thanks,

I've read some online resources that utilize various MySQL command-line actions to migrate data from Access to MySQL. The situation is this: a group of co-workers of mine will be using an Access db in a shared source (for now, a directory.. ???) to be able to generate reports on the fly. What they want to do is to be able to migrate that data to a MySQL db instance that currently exists on a different server. What would be the best...

This is a change of behaviour between Access 2000 SP3 and Access 2002 SP3. I have Progress table that is linked via ODBC into Access using OpenLink Lite for Progress 9.0b. For over a year, using Access 2000 under Win98, I have been running a Make Table or Append query against this ODBC table and producing an extracted Access table. Any fields that are NULL on the source ODBC table show as NULL on the output table. The query also has an...

Hi, I'm trying to write an app that reads data from a table into a string variable for later use in my program. Below is a snippet of the code I'm using, which compiles ok, but at runtime I get and error 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' as soon as I try to access the data in the fields, I.e. at the line that reads 'KeyFlags(i) = rstFields("keyflag").value'

I need to migrate Unicode data from MS Access to Oracle. Have tried the following: -Exported the Access tables to csv/txt, but these files were generated in ANSI encoding, and the Unicode data got converted to ASCII characters. -ODBC export directly to the Oracle tables doesn't work either. -However, when the table is exported to excel, Unicode encoding is retained.

I wish to copy a table on a SQL Server backend to a table on an Access (.mdb) front end in the simplest way. I have the following to get the recordset but am seeking something easier. Hi. I have an Access front end .mdb file which in connected to Access tables in some locations and to SQL Server tables in others. It also is connected to an Access table for other data, regardless of whether the main back end tables are in Access/Jet or SQL. I need to make sure the link to this external table is good each time, so I set its connect string appropriately, starting with ";DATABASE=" then the path and table name. The I...

Am using A97. Have defined Machine Data Source type DSNs in Access' File, Get External Data, Link Tables, Files of Type ODBC, Machine Data Source tab. Have many definitions. Would like to delete some. Would like to edit some. How to delete? I don't think editing is possible.

I am a UNIX person (not much experience with MS Access) who during a recent upgrade on an IBM RS/6000 server had to convert our system due to an upgrade to a new software revision. The old software was ISAM-based and relied on a product called Transoft U/SQL to create "simulated" ODBC connections to the data for querying and reporting. The new software is using an Informix RDBMS, and so the ODBC driver must be flipped to use the Informix...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
