Connecting to a network share with username/password.

I need to connect to a networked unc path which requires username/password
details but I'm new to .net and my experience in classic vb is mainly
database related.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

I am using the Win23 API WNetCancelConnection2 and can sucessfully make a connection to a share within my class. The class is called from a Windows Form based test harness. When I instantiate exactly the samce class from a Windows Wervice, I get "A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated" .. The error number is 1312. I know the code to be good, so I suspect something around security / windows...

Hi I am in a shop where developers are required to work off of a networ share. This is so that code and other documentation is backed up nightly. This is outside the realm of Visual SourceSafe which we also use for code control. The network drive is used as the working folder. This is a configuration this shop has used for 6 years and I do not see it changing any time soon So I am testing running an ASP.NET Web application with a Clas...

Hi, I'm trying to connect to a network share using a username / password / domain of my choosing. I've tried the WindowsIdentity.Impersonate route but can only impersonate the users on the local machine / domain using this method. I could go about creating actual mapped drives but I'd much rather connect temporarily to a UNC share without affecting the system configuration.

Hi, I have ASP.NET application running on standalone (not part of the domain) Windows 2003. I use forms authentication for my application. The problem I have is that I need to create and read files on Windows domain network shared drives and also on shared via Samba Unix drives, which is equivalent to writing/reading to the workgroup computer. Please point, if possible, to detailed step by step description of what needs to be done. Thank...

Hi All I'm writing scripts in VBS fore years. But now I've to write a tool in Visual Basic .Net which has to connet to a Windows domain. I know how to do this in VBS but I don't find a way in VB.Net. I've no idea how to logon to the domain via Net.Socket. It is not necessary to map a network drive. I can transfer data via UNC names. Can anybody give me a suggestion how to realize it?

I have some code working that uses the API WNetAddConnection2. The code is used from a Windows Form and on my PC it works. If I package the code and deploy to a server the code fails with an error "The following exception has occured: Unable to connect network drive. Win32 error code is: 67 (The network name cannot be found.)" This is when I am logged on as the administrator of the local machine. I thought it might be the fact I am not...

Hello, I have a question. We have a webserver in a domain, DomainA, and a webserver in a DMZ with local users and groups only. I'm trying to copy a file from the DomainA webserver to the DMZ webserver. Het firewall is configured to allow traffic via NetBIOS by ip-address. File copy takes place in a .NET assembly. Problem is described as follows: when copying I get an error 'access denied'

In ASP.Net, how can we connect to a nas that uses cifs for its file sharing protocol. Currently we should be able to provide the ip address or hostname of the nas, the sharename along with any directories to go directly into that sharename, and the username and password. This username and password will not be on the server hosting the asp.net pages from the local usernames and password. Currently we can only try to impersonate a local...

Hello, Suppose I have a Vista machine called VISTA and an XP machine called XP in a workgroup named WORKGROUP. Physically they're connected to a router and I can see lists of public and shared files on each of them. How do I address these for IO? A search suggested that the form open(r"\\server\folder\folder"), but I tried many combinations guessing what it wants for that path in my case (r"\\WORKGROUP\VISTA", "\\VISTA\PUBLIC", etc),...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
