I have an application that has a thread which listens to a port for incoming
messages. The thread is declared and started in my main form, that is
opened from my sub main. In this thread, when a message has an ID in it, i
want a new form to show. I currently do this within the thread:
gContactForm = New frmContact(ID)
gContactForm.Md iParent = gMainForm.Activ eForm
gContactForm.Sh ow()
But on the gContactForm.Sh ow(), the form appears to 'hang' as a white
window.
Why is this happening, and more importantly, how can i fix it?

Always create your forms in your application's main UI thread. Instance
members of Windows Forms forms and controls are not safe for multithreading,
so accessing them directly can cause problems. In addition to that, your
forms need a message pump which is normally provided by the app's main UI
thread.

I have a Class Library that contains a Form and several helper classes. A
thread gets created that performs processing of data behind the scenes and
the Form never gets displayed (it is for debug puposes only and is not
normally visable to the user.) The Thread function is actually in the Form
class.
Now.. What I am seeing is that when I create an instance of this Class
Library's Form, which starts the worker thread, it seems to hose up...

show a modal window.(e.g. a messagebox) but because t is not the main
thread, the window appears non-Modal.
Is it possible to show a modal form, from within another thread?

request). I can check form != null to prevent incorrect access.
But, the form could disappear immediately after the check, before the

take 10-30 sec depends and have to stop it at the end. I have to use
