W9x vs. Win32 Open File Dialog Box Behavior

Me
I have an application that has a text box. At the end on the text box is the
standard elypsis (command button) for launching the Open File Dialog box. I
want the user to select a certain executable and have the full path and file
name written back into the text box. This is all pretty simple and working
well in Windows 2000 and WIndows XP. However, In windows 98, when the user
selects the file and the selects the Open button to close the Open File
Dialog box or double clicks the file (it's a DOS file) a command prompt box
fires off and the file attempts to execute. This only happens in Windows 9x.
Am I missing a parameter somewhere? How can I make it just write the path
and file name to the text box without attempting to execute?

Thank you,
John

Hi, I noticed peculiar behavior under Python-2.3.4 under Win32. When I run something like this: f = open('t.txt', 'wb') f.write('1\012'+'2\012'+'3\012') f.close() f = open('t.txt', 'r') f.readline()

Hello, I have an application that has been running for years and had little problem with it. We've been retesting the latest code under Windows 2003 and found a surprise. There is a certain case where we allow the MDI app to close the database and the user can later request the open dialog. This normally calls the CDatabase open with the flags that allow the ODBC Open Dialog

Hi, For the last couple of releases of a product we're developing we've been running to very wierd behavior from IE and our ASP.NET web application which serves up various types of files and I'm getting very frustrated in trying to solve it! We content we are serving up is potentially sensitive and therefore we DO NOT want it cached on the remote client (IE) beyond the lifetime of the application rendering it (IE, Powerpoint, Word...

How can I get my code to NOT display two "Open/Save/Cancel/More Info" dialog boxes when using the "Response.WriteFile" method to download a file to IE I've asked about this before and didn't get a satisfactory answer (check your browser) so now that I've had the time to set up a reasonable little test that I can post somewhere, I'll try again. The app I've written has three ASPX pages. One is a combined page which writes a little text...

I posted on this about two months ago and got no response. I am creating an app in which the user needs to select a file somehow and then have its full path put into a text box (or label). I am using the Open File Dilog Bo to do this. The problem is that the file they need to select is an execitable (exe). When theyhighlight it and then select the Open button it attempts to run the program. This only seems to happen in Windows 9x but may be...

Hello, Not sure if anyone else has seen this bug, but I have a form where the entire form is covered with a picturebox. The picturebox has a mouseup event. I also have an open file dialog for loading images into the picturebox. If you double click the file you want to open in the open file dialog, it somehow interperets one of the clicks as a mouseup on the picturebox and fires the mouseup event for the picturebox. How can I get...

I wrote some code that is supposed to enumerate through the specified file's win32 resources and return a string-array of all icon names. When it runs, it returns a string-array with a bunch of numbers in sequential order (1-55 when ran against iexplore.exe). When I open up iexplore.exe in Visual Studio, I see 23 icons. Each icon has 1 or more sizes of the icon...I'm assuming that there are, in fact, 55 icon resources in iexplore.exe,...

I noticed this behavior in a C# application. For its nature the applications stays mainly minimized to the tray icons As soon as it's launched the application responds normally. After a while, when I double click on the tray icon to show the window or I type a shortcut to open a new dialog (which also contains third-part controls) it takes much longer to open (even 3-5 seconds). How is that? Is there a way to avoid this behavior and keep...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
