I am absolutely bewildered by now by the Microsoft.Samples SSPI and Security
assemblies. I've been trying to set these up in a very straightforward
harness in the way that I'd like to be able to use them. No IIS. Use TCP,
binary. Standard server example with a console host and console client. .NET
1.1, windows XP. (I tried posting to the remoting newsgroup, no answers in
the last couple days, trying here in hopes that more people watch this...

I'm trying to develop an application which communicates with MS Office
Live Communications Server. I'm following exmples from MSDN and they
all state that the objects can be found in the "microsoft.rtc.sip"
namespace. However, when I go into Visual Studio .NET and try to
import that namespace, it can't be found.
Is there an SDK or something that I need to install to get the
namespace? I can't find it anywhere. How are namespaces...

I don't know if you have noticed, but it seems like Microsoft is losing
interest in C#, and putting their energy into Visual Basic.NET instead.
For instance, online chats by language since July 1, 2004:
VB.NET 47
C# 6
C++ 8
J# 0

Is anyone writing VB.Net (2003) code /without/ referencing the
Microsoft.VisualBasic namespace(?), regardless of whether its
Import'ed or not?
The Powers That Be here are trying to introduce a "standard" that
we should be writing our "VB" programs /without/ using this
namespace at all and relying instead solely on CLR functionality.
Comments and Opinions please...

Having only recently migrated across from VB6 to VB.NET I'm still
unsure whether or not I should be making (heavy) use of the
Microsoft.VisualBasic namespace in new applications. I've read a lot
of posts in the (VB).Net newsgroups and seen just about all of the For
and Against arguments i.e. not using it = not coding in VB.NET, not
using it = good OO. I'm also aware of the difference between this
namespace and the compatibility namespace....

We have an application that works perfectly in-house (tested on 3
different servers). It uses Microsoft.Web.UI.WebControls.dll for menubars

Hi - I'm trying to use "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Logging.FileLogTraceListener"
from a set of C# aspx web pages, but I can't seem to use:
<%@ Import Namespace="Microsoft.VisualBasic.Logging" %>
I get a compilation error (Compiler Error Message: CS0234: The type or
namespace name 'Logging' does not exist in the namespace
'Microsoft.VisualBasic' (are you missing an assembly reference?)).
I can import the "Microsoft.VisualBasic" namespace...

Hi group,
I've seen a number of articles where .NET programmers argue against using
the Microsoft.VisualBasic namesapce; I've also seen others that promote the
use of this namespace.
What is a general consensus on the use of the namespace by the people who
frequent this board?
And if the consensus is to NOT use the Microsoft.VisualBasic namespace, then

I am under the impression they are obsolete methods included for
backward compatibility. For instance is using
filedatetime("c:\myfile.txt") still the accepted way of getting the date
c:\myfile.txt was last modified? I see filedatetime is in the
Microsoft.VisualBasic namespace. Is there some
dim file as new something
dim lastchanged as date = file.datetime
method we are supposed to use now?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
