I keep getting this error when i try running my vb.net
windows service.

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( .NET
Runtime ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have
the necessary registry information or message DLL files to

I can add a systray icon in normal windows application...
but when i do it in windows service, the systray icon just don't show up
is that because i don't have any "component" to contain the systray icon?

I have a Windows Service (VB.NET) that runs 24/7. It
queries a Web service 5 to 10 times per hour. About 2 or
3 times a month, it fails. The log indicates that it
sends the request to the Web service but there is no
return from the service. Stopping and restarting the
Windows service cures the problem.
Our desire is to cure the problem with appropriate error
handling but failing that, is there an easy way to

I've tried executing processes under Visual Basic.NET-based Windows
services in the past but to no avail.
Is it possible to execute a process via System.Diagnostics in a
Windows Service? The user does not have to be able to interact with
the process, but let's say the (hidden) process does a file
conversion. I'd like to be able to execute such a process in a Windows
Servce.

The problematic code runs perfectly fine and unmodified when the
application is executed as a standalone .exe. However when the same
code is executed inside Windows Service - it locks up and waits
indefinetely attempting to instantiate COM object with
Activator.CreateInstance.
The service impersonates local admin creadentials.
I am not getting any exceptions, neither raised, nor reported in
systems logs.

Hello,
I have a problem with our OnlineBackupService.exe. This is a Windows Service
which is built in .Net 1.1 and basically grabs files from the file system and
will try to upload them using WebServices.
The service is installed by default using LocalSystem account. The exact
problem is that sometimes this service is not allowed to resolve the target
webservice. This results in the following exception:

I built a Windows service that sweeps a set of folders every 60 seconds and puts the files into a SQL Server database. I am creating a second service that will delete this set of folders and recreate them each night based on a list of active customers. I need to be able to stop the first service before starting the second service and then when the second service completes restart the first service. I haven't the slightest idea how to proceed.

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
