Keyboard based barcode scanners.

I have a barcode scanner that hooks up to a keyboard port. I've figured
out how to setup a system-wide keyboard hook. However, how do I
distinguish regular keyboard input from the barcode scanner input. Does
anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

I cannot imagine that it is possible.

That is like trying to detect a hardware keylogger. Not gonna happen.

You cannot! The only way to detect is to calculate the speed of completion
(even this won't be sure because it could be a Paste operation).

What are the most popular, and well supported, libraries of drivers for bar code scanners that include a Visual Basic and C/C++ API? My requirements are: - Must allow an application to be written to a single interface, but support many different manufacturers' barcode scanning devices. I do not want to be tied to one manufacturers' software interfaces. - Must support use of the scanner from Visual Basic, and ideally from C/C++ and...

I posted yesterday about a project I'm involved in to build a login application using a barcode scanner. I've solved most of the problems, but one remains. The client want to disable keyboard input (except at some remote sites where there won't be a scanner). The session "knows" whether that site should be keyboard enabled, but unfortunately the output from the scanner is in the form of keypresses! So any attempt to capture and...

Hi all, I have an application that uses input from a barcode reader via a USB port. My application works fine only if the application HAS FOCUS. If the user opens up another application (not mines) such as notepad/word, etc, the Barcode Reader reads data into the applicaton that currently has focus with is notepad/word but not my own applicaton. My question is as follows: Is there a way to write a Listener

I'm working on an application (OEM) using c# that uses input from a keyboard and a USB Barcode Scanner. I need to be able to identify keystrokes from the barcode scanner and remove them from the message queue, regardless of what application has focus. I can identify the keystrokes and input device by registering for raw input (RegisterRawInputDevices) and processing the WM_INPUT message. This gives me the keystrokes and the ability to...

Greetings, I would like to integrate a barcode scanner into the current project I am working on. I have been looking around teh web and with the exception of embeded devices I cannot find many programming guides. What I am looking for is a barcode scanner with an api/sdk. I am not interested in using a keyboard wedge because I do not want my end user to have to deal with making sure the cursor is in the right place. As it needs to...

Hi, I am in the design phase of building a database that will track the productivity of my warehouse. I am thinking of using a barcode scanner to assist me with this. Employees will hopefully be scanning a barcode which will communicate to the computer that the employee did some type of task. Employees will be identified by ID badges which will contain string data to identify them and hopefully log them in. Is this a good way to keep...

Hi I have created a website which has a number of buttons on it which allow users to add items to there basket, they then click on an AJAX watermarked textbox to set focus before using a keyboard wedge scanner to scan there staff ID card, this causes a postback and validates the user - all works perfectly. My problem is caused if the user attempts to scan their card before clicking on the watermarked textbox. This then forces a postback...

Does anyone know of any python based barcode readers? I'm looking for something (commercial or open source) that will use some OCR algorithm to read barcodes from an image or ps/pdf file, and ideally will be something along the lines of a callable python script. I have some pretty simple needs, i'm only trying to read code 93 barcodes, so i don't need it to be able to identify multiple symbologies or anything. Any suggestions would be...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
