Hi,
The documentation states that enumeration through a collection is
inherently NOT thread-safe, since a thread which added/removed an item from
said collection could screw up the thread that was iterating. That makes
sense.. but... given a collection that is filled at start-time and never
modified again, is it safe to have multiple threads *reading* (not writing
to) the collection using foreach()?
I have a class that exposes an...

Hello,
I'm trying to create a worker thread for my VC++ program, and was
wondering whether I should be linking with the Multithread /MT or
Multithread DLL /MD option? I'm not quite sure, in layman's terms,
what the difference is.
When I build with Multithread DLL, the linker complains about not
being able to find a bunch of "unresolved external symbols" associated
with nafxcwd.lib.

Assume that you would like to create a custom collection class that is:
1. Strongly-typed (only holds Customer objects)
2. Read-only (user cannot add Customer objects)
3. Able to be bound to a winforms datagrid (must implement the IList
interface).
What would be a good way to create this class?
1. The CollectionBase abstract base class can be used, but it is not

Hi, I was trying to find out what exactly is meant by multi-thread
safe code/functions etc. I couldn't find relevant information on the
web and would appreciate any useful links/information on this topic.
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Shalini.

ArrayList suffers from the same effect as the vb6 collection object.
Once you add an object to the collection, you lose the intellisense for
that object. Has anyone seen any wrappers for the collection-like
objects in .NET that preserve intellisense?
Thanks

Let's say I'm writing a business app and I want there to be only one
instance of the Customer object for each particular customer (representing a
database record) being edited.
Would it be possible to extend the Singleton pattern to handle this?
Assuming that my Customer class follows the Singleton pattern (particularly
Skeet's 4th version) I'm thinking if I add
private static SomeCollectionType customers;

In a Windows Forms application I plan to have a collection of structs - each
of which contains a bunch of properties describing a person (e.g., LastName,
FirstName, EmployeeID, HomeAddress, ZipCode, etc). So each instance of the
struct will describe a person - and about 900 instances (people) will be
contained in the collection.
Users must be able to search for a specific person by any of the properties
(e.g., LastName, FirstName,...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
