Testing "real world" two tier apps..

I have some Windows Forms software that I'm developing that uses a remote
server (called using remoting) to provide the business rules and dataaccess.

For development purposes the client and server portions are both running on
my PC. I was wondering if there was some way that for "real world"
performance, I could somehow "throttle" the tcp/ip stack so that calls to
localhost had some lag to represent the latency/bandwidth of a real
network - I want to replicate bandwidths from 28kb/s up to 100mbit/s.

I don't however want to throttle my external network connection!! The
internet is sometimes slow enough as it is without throttling it further!

Does anybody know any product that might do the trick?

Regards

I've installed Visual Studio 2005 Beta from the MSDN cd dated Aug 2004, which installs the 2.0 framework and ASP.NET 2.0. I write a simple aspx page containing <HTML><BODY>Hello world</BODY></HTML> and place it in inetpub\wwwroot. I run the page http://localhost/test.aspx and it fails with "Server Error in '/' Application." "Failed to map the path '/test.aspx'. " I can successfully run asp and htm pages from that same location, however. ...

I want to know how functional indexes are used "in the real world". Here are the common uses: * non-unique index on the first parts of a longish text field (SUBSTRING(field)) to save disk space, while still allowing faster searches than a sequential scan. * indexing on LOWER(field)/UPPER(field) to allow case-insensitive searches or case-insensitive unique constraint.

Hello, Let me start by saying that I am coming from a background using Matlab (or Octave), and C++. I am going to outline the basic nuts-and-bolts of how I work in these languages, and ask for some help to find out how the same thing is done in Python. I am not sure what the standard is. In C++, I open up an editor in one window, a Unix shell in another. I write the code in the editor, then switch to the shell window for compile...

Hello, I am having a problem. I have developed a couple of small apps using Visual Studio 2005 C#. I am to the point where I want to test the app on another machine. I copied it across the network to the target. When I run the app I get a message saying "WindowsApplication1 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Hi everyone I need to move on a step in my PHP... I know what classes are, both in PHP4 and 5 and I'm aware of "patterns" existing, but what I'm looking for are some real world projects eg. Open Source that people consider to use classes and patterns correctly. I lack a senior person to lead me in this so I feel I'm losing out on only using bare PHP class features and not really knowing how to design

.......... just for curiosity? "real" XHTML served as content (MIME) type application/xhtml+xml will display in MSIE 6.0 release 2900 and 7.0 but they will not render xml content. However, MSIE 6.0 release 2800 and earlier displays a download screen -- selecting OPEN presents a plain, text only, rendered page -- sans style sheet. Here is an XHTML page served as content (MIME) type application/xhtml+xml for testing by those interested. ...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
