Having problems with NULL fields in SQL

Dear folks,
I'm programming in VB .net and trying to import values from fields in a table in SQL. Everytime there is a NULL value in SQL, the program doesn't work and shows an error. How does VB realize there is a Null value in SQL. Any pointers would be appreciated.

cheers,

Ranjan

This might seem like a stupid question, but have you tried using the isnull function?

I have a small form that on button press submits to a PHP file for further processing into a database. I have to change the script as it allows blank / nothing to be submitted to the database. The intention is that if any of the two form fields are blank (empty) then the page is resent stating that they have to fill in all the fields to post (to a database). If I deliberately leave the fields blank and submit the form, querying the...

Perhaps someone has experience these two problems and if there are any fixes or workarounds, I sure would like to know. I'm using Access 97. When exporting data in html from one database that includes the "time" in any format, during the import process there is an error and creates a table indicating that it is a "Type Conversion Error." I have checked the table field type in the import database and it is correct - Date/Time, including...

I am using an asp page to access data stored by Microsoft SQL in a SQL server database. I cannot get all values to return, some display as blanks. I am using IIS v5, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, running on Windows Advanced Server 2000 SP4. Here is my asp code, SQL table create statements, CSV example data and output. As can be seen by the output, the pc_model and manufacturer fields display blank although these fields hold text data in...

I am new to the VBA world. I have a form that I am trying to validate the fields on. They are either text boxes or combo boxes. I have a custom function that is called when the user clicks a command button. I cannot test any of these fields for no user input or null. None of these work: If (Me.txtProductCode = Null) Then ' some code here End if or If Len (Me.txtProductCode) = Null Then ' some code here

Hello everbody, Our system is using Sql Server 2000 on Windows XP / Windows 2000 We have a text file needs to be imported into Sql Server 2000 as a table. But we are facing a problem which is, Sql Server claims that it has a character size limit ( which is 8060 ) so it cant procceed the import operation if the text file has a record bigger then 8060. The records , in the text file, have a size bigger then 8060. So we wont be able to...

I have 'cli via c# on order', and in the mean time am reading 'Pro C# 2005 and the .NET platform' (Andrew Troelson). I'm just reading about the 'five types defined in the CTS'. Specifically Struct. Now Troelson described the struct type as 'a lightweight class type having value based semantics'. Looking at his example I cant see any difference from a class here other than it is defined with the struct keyword? what is the difference...

I searched the groups and tried several approaches but still cannot find a solution. I have a table that has several hundred fields that may or may not need to be displayed in a report, depending on whether they are NULL or not. (Due to limitations of out software, the table needs to be designed this way) The data needs to be displayed like this:

Well, here's my first post in this forum (other than saying 'HI' over in the hi forum ;-) As I said over there: ... for a little side project at home, I'm writing a ham radio web site in uby/Rails. I started it in Perl and gave up on Perl as I went from the 'display the database information on the web page' to the 're-display the information from the database and allow the user to update the database using the web page' stage and realized...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
