DCOM Example

Hello,
does anybody know a little DCOM example or tutorial in VB.Net which runs on
two seperate machines to simulate the network communication. I couldnt find
any useful samples in the web but we have to develop a dcom component and i
dont know the steps necessary to connect over the wire.

thank you
Andreas

Can you use a web service or web binary remoting instead of DCOM?

DCOM isn't really appropriate if you're working strictly with .NET clients and components.

It was the demand of our customer. How can features like JIT acitvation or
ObjectPooling be done. Is there a way within remoting? OK, IIS could be a
possible host for the remoting component, but what about Object Pooling? Can
you show me a way?

Thank you
Andreas

This is mostly idle speculation from a position of considerable ignorance :-) In theory it should be possible to do client side dcom from non-windows boxes. The existing python win32com stuff is only distributed for windows. The python wrappers could be generated from a type library on a windows box; copied across to (e.g.) a linux box...

I am in desperate need to get help in answering some questions in regards to building a DCOM Server using C#. I need to create a DCOM server using C#.NET, I realise that you first need to create the managed code, attach interfaces and use the CCW command line tool to add a COM wrapper to the assembly. The server will be communicating with...

I'm having a problem porting an ASP solution to ASPX. In the ASP solution I'm accessing a DCOM server, create sub DCOM objects and call functions from VB script on the ASP pages. The DCOM object handles are stored in session variables. This works fine without a problem. Ported it to ASPX, accessing the same DCOM server from code behind...

I don't know where is the right place to ask this so I will start here. Can someone explain to me what these represent? I think they all have to do with the middleware level, but I really don't understand what a DCOM Server is or a Microsoft Transaction Server, etc. I have no idea.... Kyle

Hi, in a existing application (DCOM server and client, both in VC++) we have very often problems with the DCOM-configuration. Is the requiered configuration (open ports) in applications using .NET remoting much more easier than in DCOM applications? What is with the performance, if the DCOM server has a .NET remoting object client and...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
