Windows Impersonation

This mysterious ghost has not been found by myself through much searching.

Does anyone use windows impersonation with Dot Net?
Can anyone direct me to any working examples using Impersonation with Vb.Net
in a windows environment (not asp.net)?
Thanks in advance,

bill

Hello all, Here is my problem. I have a windows service (C#) that is supposed to move files from/to the local drive to/from a UNC share (\\domainserver\share). The service is running on a Win3k server not connected to a domain, as a local user. The service impersonates a local user (on domainserver) that has full permissions to that share. Any File.Move, File.Copy operations are successfull. Any Directory.GetFiles fail with "Logon...

I have a DTS Package I am able to execute successfully from a Windows Form application, but I cannot get this to work from an ASP.NET Web Service, although the Web Service impersonates the same user the Windows Form runs under. When I run the Web Service, I make a call to "System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name" and this verifies the user-id is the same account I am logged onto when I successfully run my Windows...

Is there a way to use ASP.NET's windows authentication so that the user that is using our web page is the user that is connected to our SQL Server? This will allow us to leverage our domain roles/groups. Our connection string is below. The options I've found so far I don't like: 1. Impersonation - sql server permissions would be granted to this single account. 2. Granting rights to the ASP.NET user account on our SQL Server - sql...

Issue Our web application requires access to write to a custom event log, yet access is denied. This access is denied because we are using impersonation, and our end-users do not (should not) have permissions to write to a custom event log. We would like to know if someone out there has resolved this problem without incorporating registry hacks, elevating end-user account permissions to admin OR calling native code to logon as the account...

Suppose you have one domain, filled with a couple of users. What needs to be done now is I need to start a windows application from a webform by pressing a button on the webform (for example). The problem is that the user who "owns" the service is always the ASPNET account. That's not good since you don't see the actual application (because it's owned by ASPNET). I've tried changed the processmodel section in the machine.config file to...

Does a user being impersonated within and ASP.NET application (using programatic impersonation) on a Windows 2003 Server machine need any different privileges or policies than the same ASP.NET user and application running under Windows XP. I am using a set of classes that expose the COM Windows TaskScheduler. When I try to instantiate the COM class within an ASP.NET Application on Windows 2003 Server, I get an access denied, but not when...

Dear all, I built a Web Form application to start and stop a Windows Service remotely. I successful tested the application on Windows 2000 server + IIS. I must include the ASPNET user to the Administration group (on server side) to have the necessary authorization to start a Windows Service (I don't understand why "Power User" rights are not enough to do the same thing) Although I'm able to start a service using windows 2000 server...

Using VB .NET how can I enable my program to access a share on another machine and pass the user name and password. I have a computer and share, say "\\computer\share" so I can copy files from it but to access it I have to log on with a UserName and Password. I do not want the user to have to enter the user name or password, so how can I pass this in code? Thanks, -Carl

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
