I am just trying to practice using the Winsock control in Visual Basic 6.0.
I have created an example by following an exercise in the Que book "Using
Visual Basic 6" and that works ok if both my server and my client are using
the local host ip address, 127.0.0.1, but if I create a copy of the same
application and change the ip address to a 192.168.9.n one then the Winsock
control just says that it is connecting, never connected.
Does...

Hi,
Does anyone know how Windows allocates memory for controls? For example,
given a huge Panel, say, in a relatively much smaller Form with scrollbars,
will Windows attempt to allocate a huge area of memory for the Panel's
visible surface, or will it only allocate as much as is required (i.e. as
much as is visible)?
If the former, is there any way of preventing this? Like telling it that at
this point in time, only X amount of the...

I want my users to send emails from a Windows app that I am developing in
Visual Basic.NET 2003. I found a good example of sending email to a SMTP
server using the SmtpMail class. However, using this, it seems, that the
user must install IIS on their computer. Isn't there a class that will
detect whatever mail server is available on a computer and use that? How do
I create this functionality without having the user add any other...

Hi. Is there a way of accessing the address book, similar to what Outlook
Express does, using C#?
Thanks

I currently have the IE ActiveX object embedded inside an application.
I'm running into a problem where when I make the control visible or
have it navigate to a different page, the application hangs. It
doesn't crash, it just sits there as if its deadlocked.
The stack crawl looks like this:
System.Windows.Forms.AxHost.CreateWithoutLicense()
System.Windows.Forms.AxHost.CreateWithLicense(string)

I was goofing around tonight and decided to write a little IP address
control. I had written a simple one a long time ago, but I decided I
should try to write one that was half way correct :) Anyway, here is the
result of about an hour and half of work...
// IPControl.cs
using System;
using System.Collections;
using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Drawing;

Hi,
I'm trying to use the Groupwise address book for my Microsoft Access
database. So I added the "address book control" to my form.
If I click on the (now existing) button, I can choose whatever address I'd
like. But as soon as I click "Close" or "OK" I don't know how to get the
selected addresses to my form. What's the appropriate code?
I'm looking for something like

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
