Hello all,
how can i solve the following problem:
a webclient requests a page - the page offers a downloadable component - the
client downloads and starts the component - the component sends data about a
specific application to the server - the server looks for a new version of
the application and sends the update to the client.
I think it is very similar to Microsofts windows update, but i dont know how
to develop the clients component which also runs as a server? Any Ideas??? 3 963
Have you looked at No-Touch Deployment? It works like a charm for check out
this sample: http://www.sellsbrothers.com/wahoo/

Hello,
We are at a very crucial decision making stage to select between .Net
and Java. Our requirement is to download a class at runtime on the
client computer and execute it using remoting or rmi.
Just to keep my question short I am posting trimmed version of my
code.

I need to write a server app to send images to client GUIs that are outside
of the server's domain.
The client will have the file system path to the image but can not access
the file system.
I am trying to decide if I should use remoting vs. writing a server that
uses networkstreams.
I have read that networkstreams\tcp programming should be faster than
remoting and is a better choice for what I am doing but that it is difficult
to code.

I am starting a project that may be suitable for vb.net, using windows
forms. I want a rich client, thus win forms vs web forms. Most users
will access the app data over a LAN, but some will be remote users,
accessing via vpn. I could use terminal services for this but am
thinking that an alternate technology like remoting or web servies could
be viable.
- Rich client
- N-Tier
- LAN & Internet clients (via VPN)

Hello folks,
I appologize for the cross post, but I really need an answer on this:
I do not think that I am seeing the whole picture here. I would like to
create a windows service and a management console, using Visual Basic 2003.
The windows service part, I think, is easy enough. I am more concerned with
the remoting aspect of the project. Below is the general idea of my
approach, please correct my where I am wrong.

I have a simple remote server object that raises an event when the list
maintined by it changes. The idea is to enable the remote client to
update the GUI when the server list changes. When the I create the
server object without using remoting (i.e. just use new()) the event
fires and the client updates the UI but when I create the server object
as a remote object (using Activator.GetObject()) the event does not
fire at all. I have pasted...

I'm having a problem with a pair of applications I'm developing. I have a
server application which interacts with several instruments, and a client app

instruments. Readings from the instruments are periodically sent to the
clients, and clients will send commands to the server based on user input.
In normal usage there will be around 6 clients connected, with a...

Hi
I have a problem with the .Net-Securty-Functions.
I've got a client and a server.
When I try to register a channel at the server with this line:
ChannelServices.RegisterChannel(chan, false);
I get the following error - doesn't matter if I try it local from my machine
or from a remote machine.
(After the Errormessage is more text ;))

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...
