Reading text file using ADO.net

Not sure if this is the best group... it may be better off in one of the ADO
groups, but I'm sure somebody here knows the answer:

I'm trying to load up a text file using ADO.net, as follows:

Dim TextConnectionS tring As String

TextConnectionS tring = "Provider=Micro soft.Jet.OLEDB. 4.0;" & _

"Data Source=" & FilePath & ";" & _

"Extended Properties=""Te xt;HDR=NO;FORMA T=Delimited"""

Dim TextConn As New System.Data.Ole Db.OleDbConnect ion(TextConnect ionString)

TextConn.Open()

Dim da As New System.Data.Ole Db.OleDbDataAda pter("Select * from " &
filename, TextConn)

Dim ds As DataSet = New DataSet("CSVFil es")

da.Fill(ds, filename)

When I run this, it fails at the "fill" statement with the error "Database
or object is read only".

The file in question can definitely be read and written (it's a short CSV
file). What have I done wrong???

Many thanks in advance.

Simon

Hi Simon,

I am also not sure if this is the wrong group, but I am sure that you are
missing a command.

Dim cmd As New OleDbCommand(sq lStr, Conn)
Dim da As New OleDbDataAdapte r(cmd)

Not saying that I know of the rest works.

But maybe it was only this?

I have two(2) issues. I'm experiencing a little difficulty and having to resort to a work around. I already found one bug, although stated the bug was only in ODBC, which I'm not using. It appears to be in the OLEDB driver also. My connection was: conn.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & strPath & ";" & "Extended Properties='Text;HDR=NO;FMT=Delimited'"

I'm trying to process a collection of text files, reading word by word. The program run hangs whenever it encounters a word with an accented letter (like rôle or passé) - ie something that's not a "char" with an ASCII code in 0..127 I've searched the ANSI C++ standard, the internet and various text books, but can't see how to workaround this one. I've tried wchar_t and wstring without success. But rather than spending lots of time on...

Greetings, I need to read (unformatted text) from stdin up to EOF into a char buffer; of course I cannot allocate my buffer until I know how much text is available, and I do not know how much text is available until I have read it... which seems to imply that multiple reads of the input stream will be inevitable. Now I can correctly find the number of characters available by: |

Cheerio, I would appreciate opinions on the following: Given the task to read a _complete_ text file into a string: What is the "best" way to do it? Handling the buffer is not the problem -- the character input is a different matter, at least if I want to remain within the bounds of the standard library.

I'm trying to read some binary data from a file created by another program. I know the binary file format but can't change or control the format. The binary data is organised such that it should populate a series of structures of specified variable composition. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
