Finding hanging datareaders

I have an application that occasionally throws up an "open datareader
associated with this connection". Obviously there is a path that leads to a
datareader being left hanging; however finding it will be difficult since
there are lots of different ways to go around the application and knowing
which database operation was carried out immediately before the one
generating the error is difficult. The error is very rare, which adds to the
difficulty.

Since the system is aware of the datareader, there must be a way that for an
arbitrary connection object (ODBC in this case), I can locate any connected
datareader. How would I go about this in VB.NET?

A publication style guide indicates that for a table heading like the following, Table 3. Wheat and rye harvest in European countries in years that end in 3 or 7 or when a new prime minister takes office. when the heading flows over more than one line, a hanging indent should be used, such that the remainder of the heading should be left-aligned, in this example, with "Wheat", leaving "Table 3. " standing off by itself on the left.

Maybe there is a simple trick here, and I'm not spotting it... Is there a guru of CSS hanging around here who can help out? The page in question has a multi-column table with a list of links in each column. Because links are added and deleted separately in each column, it would be exceedingly awkward to use a separate table row for each link. Therefore, within each column the links are separated by <br> tags. However, the automatic line...

I'm trying to design all of my data access logic into one centralized assembly. I'm wondering how to implement DataReaders. There's plenty of documentation on passing DataSets to the client from the middle tier... but what about DataReaders? Do I have to bypass the centralized data access assembly when I want to use DataReaders? Thanks.

I know how this should be done in regards to nTier, but it seems a bit inneficient, and was wondering if there's a solution that I havn't thought of yet. (I'm switching this loop to For Each Row as DataRow in.... to kill the one int that's not needed.) For intCount1 = 0 To objData.DataSet.Tables("tblSecondaryNumbers").Rows.Count - 1 rowTemp = objData.DataSet.Tables("tblSecondaryNumbers").Rows(intCount1)

Is there a good way to find a pattern of bytes/chars in a stream? I've got a serial port connected to a tcp port. I need to be able to catch a unique character string in the stream so that I can perform certain functions. For example, I have a telnet client connected to an Apple II through the serial port. The user at the telnet terminal is using the BBS running on the Apple II just like the good ole days of dialup BBS's. I need to be...

team i'm having a tough time getting these data readers to work correctly I'd just like to be able to centralize my GetDataReader functions; so i can pass a simple SQL statement and be passed back a valid DataReader object. I've been slaving with this all day long. I've been trying 'new' and not new and just slaving over this; im calling it an early day..

If I am grabbing a lot of rows (say 10,000 from SQL) would I be helping or hurting the network by using a DataReader? I would think helping because it's really only returning 1 row at a time, but I'm not sure. Are there good articles out there that explain how the DataReader does this as well as any that discuss performance problems/benefits?

Hello guys, I was wondering if anybody here had implemented a solution where Tables are aligned according to what the hanging indent tells us when there is a potential for the table overflowing in the right margin or out of the page. I did some research a while back and came to the conclusion at that time that it wasn't possible to have both (either we align on the hanging indent and if there is a potential for a table to be 6.75

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
