DevPartner Profiler - This is a great tool, but...

I have been guided to this great tool for performance analysis (many
thanks to January):

http://www.compuware.com/products/de...03umrS=3019X36

I have installed and run it and immediately noticed its extreme
usefulness and couldn't believe it's free. To figure out what causes
my problem - performance degradation over time - I looked at the
performance analysis report. From the report, I noted 95.7 % of the
time is used in 'the system and other dlls' as the following:

KERNEL32.DLL
Number of Called Methods: 178
Percent of Time Spent in Image: 51.1 (mostly, Sleep and
WaitForSingleOb ject)

Microsoft.Visua lBasic
Number of Called Methods: 105
Percent of Time Spent in Image: 30.0 (mostly,
Microsoft.Visua lBasic.Collecti on.GetEnumerato r)

mscorlib
Number of Called Methods: 985
Percent of Time Spent in Image: 12.4 (mostly, System.Array.Co py and
System.Collecti ons.Hashtable.* )

Being a beginner in VB >and< .NET, I am not familiar with the above.
Could somebody give me some tips about what to do?

Thanks,

Chris

I've been evaluating PurifyPlus and DevPartner for their memory analysis features when doing C# development. For the most part I find them to be nearly identical in functionality. PurifyPlus gives a memory graph showing the entire application lifetime, whereas DevPartner only shows the last minute or so. But DevPartner was easier to get up and running with, and it has a friendlier look and feel, for whatever that's worth. Does...

Hello All, My company is evaluating this tool called Devpartner from compuware corporation (www.compuware.com/products/devpartner/1500_ENG_HTML.htm) It is supposed to have an IDE much lighter than Visual studio's IDE and has superior code testing and performance monitoring tools. Has anybody used this tool? I would appreciate some comments on this tool. Thanks.

I just installed the Compuware DevPartner community edition. I created a new Windows Appplication project using C#. The problem is that any menu/option related to "Peformance Analysis" appears disabled or absent . For example, there is no submenu under Tools->DevPartner->Profiler. As I understand there should be a submenu named "Peformance Analysis" under this menu. In addition any button on the "Performance Session" toolbar is...

Hi, I'm using for a while DevPartner Profiler (http://www.compuware.com/products/devpartner/resources/profiler/profiler.as p), but unfortunately it works only for 2002 and 2003. Is there a profiler that looks like DevPartner Profiler (gives the same information: shows clearly which methods/statements takes the most time in total etc and free!). Or will DevPartner make a version for 2005 soon?

I am using devpartner performance analysis at the moment. I am trying to locate the bad performance areas in my application. The session file that is created has many headings. I want to know exactly how best to read this data. There are headings and i want to know if i am reading these results correctly. My understanding is as follows: Top 20 methods-These are the 20 methods that take up the most time. Real:The average execution time of...

Can any-one recommend some good sites detailing how to code a simple memory profiler? How do they "look under the hood"? I built an uber simple service that tracks the process' memory but I need to "get inside" and look a bit deeper and I don't have a clue where to start ... a commercial memory profiler is not an option due the nature of the environment the application is deployed in .. My app runs fine for weeks (in 8 locations) but...

A few years ago I used a Profiler (I forget the name) on my Delphi code at the time and got fantastic results showing both: a) lines of code that took the longest to execute and b) lines of code that allocated the most unreleased memory. I have looked around and am unable to find a good tool to easily achieve these statistics for my C# Winforms application. Possible reasons are that: 1) I am having difficulty finding the existing...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
