How do i serialize two instances (of some object) in the
same class? I'm not sure how i would de-serialize a
class that has two or more instances of some object type,
and how the deserialize method would KNOW which
serialized instance to read.
eg.

I am writing a VB.NET application in Visual Studio 2003. I have written a
method that handles several events, such as closing a form and changing the
visible status of a form. I have some code that applies to all these
events, but I need to have specific code execute when the form closes. The
properties for this method are sender (the originator) and e (event
arguments). I know how to get typeof (sender) to determine what form or...

All,
I am working on an application that allows users to track
various items for various clients. For example Client A
may have an object Box where Client B has an object
Canister. When a user goes to enter a new object I would
like the application to determine what objects are
available based upon the client (easy enough) and when
they determine what object to enter the program would know
that it needed to instantiate an object of...

Hello,
The result of auto-converting some Java code to C# yielded
the following upgrade issue regarding the original Java
call to "reset()":
public virtual void writeObj(Object obj)
{
BinaryFormatter formatter = new BinaryFormatter();
formatter.Serialize(thisStream, obj);

Hi,
I'm trying to select specific nodes from a XmlDocument filled with a
serialized object and to insert these nodes into another XmlDocument.
The object is well serialized (see below). From a normal XmlDoc to
another I don't have any issue, the nodes are copied but then with this
serialized object it doesn't seem to work.
The C# code:

I've been trying to find documentation that explains limitation of possible
types that a webmethod can return. I realize xml serialization must take
place to return the specified type.
Must the return type of a webmethod implement ISerializable? I saw
something about using SoapInclude or XMLInclude attribute to include other
types in web services. Does this imply that it is possible to return any
type, even some third party class? ...

Hi!
I'm working with a C# client that calls a php web service. I've
created a wrapper to call the service using .NET wsdl tool (adding a
web reference).
The call to the server works fine, it is serialized correctly, and the
server returns a response (I've captured the response and it's
correct!) but when the .NET deserialize this response, it throws the
exception "System.InvalidOperationException: There is an error in XML

I wasn't sure how to phrase the subject.
Currently I'm storing a file as a byte in a database, when I want to work
with the file I download the byte and write the data to a file on disk
then loading the file from disk and working with it in memory. Pretty
standard.
I'm now thinking that it would be MUCH better if I could somehow convert the
byte to the object in memory. If I was dealing with binary data I could
use BinaryFormatter...

I really, really want to store some settings somewhere that my control
utilizes to create new object(s)(i.e., class, struct) at runtime without it
knowing about the type it could create at compile time. The type would
support a particular interface or base class let's say.
Couple thoughts:
1. Store the 'serialized' data in the store and let the deserializer create
it for me.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
