Determining whether another process is running

From within a vb.net app can I check to see whether a separate executable
process is running? I can see this process in Task Manager but I don't know
how to see if it's active from within my code.

Thanks.

Have a look at the 'System.Diagnos tics.Process' class and its methods
'GetProcessesBy Name' and 'GetProcesses'.

I have six hard drives (4 SCSI and 2 EIDE) on my main machine with parts of a database on each drive. The main index is on one SCSI drive all to itself. The main data are on the other three SCSI drives. Small relations are on one EIDE drive, and the logfiles are on the other EIDE drive. When running the task, below, the rest of the machine is not doing much. I do not remember where I saw it, but somewhere I got the idea that the number...

Hi All, If the name of a process is known, is it possible to check whether it is in execution? What I did was to fetch all the processes running on the system using Process.GetProcesses() and traverse through the array looking for the Process name. Is there a shortcut or easier way to accomplish this?

Hi, I have an application that will run a method depending on whether or not there is an instance of MS Word currently open. How do I determine whether or not an executable from another program is running? I am new to VB, but I suspect that this should definitely be 5 lines or less.

Hi All, I am working on Windows platform. Is there any way to find out whether the given process running? ( History: I am using WaitForSingleObject. People advised me the WaitForSingleObject could hang if the process for which we are waiting terminated earlier to calling WaitForSingleObject. So I am trying to check whether the given process is running)

Greetings! I wrote a small Exe that simply runs Shell to load PowerPoint and launch a particular file, depending on the day of the week. However, it was set up for office 2003 (I naively hardcoded the path) and I also used Shell. Does anybody have a snipped showing a more efficient method for launching a Powerpoint file, regardless of which version of Office is running? My current, ineffecient code: Sub main() Try

Hi every one... This code simply show if your project running from VB6 IDE or running as single exe file, because visual basic 6.0 run your project within VB6.exe process and it doesn't create new exe file for you like VB.NET, this situation make some problems as when you try to use resource with API call, all your functions will get failed. Hi everyone, I had a macro I wrote in VBA which created several dozen spreadsheets based off a master spreadsheet. Code runs smoothly in VBA, but trying to port it over to VB caused significant performance issues. I decided the best way would be to just run the VBA macro from VB. The problem I'm having is that the macro takes some time to run and there's no indication of progress on the VB form I created. I would like to write...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
