Hei all,
I posted this message a few months ago on a few other newsgroups, but untill
now, I did not get
a satisfying answer.
I try to read newsitems from a newsgroup automatically from within VB.Net.
Is this possible to do and if yes, how should I start?
Does anyone have some example code??
Tks,

No, just the link. Look for rfc977 at http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/. You might
also find about one million sites when having the searching engine of your
choice look for the RFC - and/or the term NNTP.
Good luck!
I guess there are also some ready managed libraries out there.
BTW, you'll have to use the System.Net.Sock ets.TcpClient class when you want
to write it on your own.

Hello,
I took quite elaborate SQL and SQL-admin courses at Oracle, but that was
years ago. Have never since used SQL but for some extremely simple
straightforward queries on single table db's. So while conjoins, inner and
outer joins et cetera ring some bells, I wouldn't know how to tell one from
the other anymore, let alone put them to good use.
So I decided to check for some good reading material that starts from
scratch but quickly...

I am trying to populate a combobox with a lisy of items. I want the 1st item
to be "Make a Selection" and the following items will be names from a table
in my DB (See code below).
When I run the project, the combox box initially displays an empty
selection. When I click on the drop down arrow I see the "Make a Selection"
followed by the other choices.
How can I move everything up so that the "Make a Selection" is the default
value in...

What do people use to read these newsgroups? I have been
using my web browser (IE) and pointing it
to "http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups/". The
experience doing this has been pretty much awful. Is
there something better? I do not want to use Outlook -- I
do not trust it to refrain from opening executables.
If anyone is interested, some of the problems with using
IE with the MSDN newsgroups are as follows. The display
doesn't...

Using AccessXP - Access2000
In my application, when an order is entered, inventory is automatically
adjusted, a pull list is created, items are pulled to fill the order, and the
order is packaged for shippment. The order is then held pending payment and
finally shipped when payment is received. Sometimes prior to shipment the
customer calls and wants to change one or more items, wants to change the
quantity of one or more items or wants...

On an xp machine, the caching works as expected. I have deployed to a win2k
server, and an item I add to the cache expires almost immediately some times
and in under a minute in other times. The aspnet_wp process is not restarting
during this time, and there are no other requests, so nothing should be
clearing this out. I have added a CacheItemRemovedCallback which writes debug
info out to a DefaultTraceListener, but no output shows up on...

Greetings!
In order to keep better track a form with several combo-boxes, I've
subclassed the ones that need to change in response to events on other
controls on the form. An example of a subclassed combo box:
<code>
Public Class byte13ComboBox
Inherits System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox
Private comboItems() As String = {"a (Numbered)", _

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
