Hi, I have developed some VB software that enables a pocket pc under Windows Mobile 2003 OS to communicate with an MS SQL Server 2005 Express database on a PC under XP, using active sync 4.2. I set the TCP/IP and ports through the MS firewall as standard and it worked. However, when I migrated the system over to a Toshiba Satellite L30 10X laptop under Visa OS., this time keeping the firewall open, I got the error message “Sqlserver does not exist or access denied”. Can anyone help me fix this ? Here is the lowdown: I have changed the name of the laptop to MYNAME and loaded up the Visa hotfixes. I have installed Visio studio standard 2005 with its updates for Visa, as well as MSS 2005 Express. Also loaded up MS .Net Framework SDK v2.0, .Net Compact Framework 2.0 SP2 and Windows Mobile Device Center +Driver Update. The server deploys VB forms to the pocket pc ok but when it comes to connecting to the database, the above error message appears. I have run Belarc and it shows the comms for the laptop include a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC with physical address 00:1B:24:3E:53:2D and two isataps. MS Baseline Security Analyzer gives the Computer Name as WORKGROUP\MYNAME-PC and IP Address as 127.0.0.1
The project files include NETCFv1.WM.ARMV41.CAB
For the connection string, in the login form, I have used variations of :
Dim cst As string = “server=MYNAME-PC\SQLEXPRESS,1433; user id =xx; password=yy; database=zz” where xx,yy,zz are well defined in MS SQL Server.
Both Named Pipes and TCP/IP have been enabled. Under TCP/IP there are 7 IP Ports. TCP Dynamic Ports and TCP Ports are all cleared. For IP4, I have Active Yes , Enabled Yes and IP Address 169.254.161.233 For IP6, I have Active Yes, Enabled Yes, IP Address 127.0.0.1 All other ports are Active Yes and Enabled No.
Under IPAll, TCP Port is set to 1433 The firewall is currently disabled.
Any ideas ?
