OK. For an n-tier architecture, where is the best place to store the connection string for the DA layer? I don't want to use the reg. Can't use a app.config for a dll. For other projects I exposed the DA layer through a we service and store the connection string in the web.config file. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Hello, I've just upgraded from .NET 2003 to 2005 and to SQL Server Express 2005. I've rebuilt my connection string. Before I used app.config, and now have the connection string is in the settings.settings. This works great for debugging/running on my machine, but I'm not sure how to deploy this and install on another machine. With 2003, in my app.config file, I had several connection strings, all but the one I needed commented out (so...

I am migrating from VB6/Access to Visual Basic and SQL Express. I have success writing test code on my local machine and am now setting up tests for deployment to a server. I have installed SQL Express on a Windows 2003 Server. I can connect and create databases on the Remote Server from my local machine using SQL Management Express, so I know Remote Access is working. However, I am unable to connect using a connection string within...

I recently purchased a good MS book ("Build a Web Site Now") by Jim Buyens. It has the Express Edition of MS-Visual Web Developer 2005 on CD and also MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on the CD. A couple of questions for this newbie: Can MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition be used in place of the older MSDE product for backend database work? I also have Visual Studio .NET (VB) 2003 (Standard Edition). How compatible are all these products...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
