i have win xp and i trying to install ms sql server 2000 Enterprise
Edition on it but after i try to do this i get a following message
"Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition server component is not
supported on this operating system. Only clients components will be
available for installation".
You cannot install Enterprise Edition (or Standard Edition) on a workstation
operating system, you must have a server operating system, Win 2000 xxx
Server or Win 2003 (any edition but Web Edition).
When you think of it, it makes sense. A server should run on a server-
operationg system.
What you can install on XP is Developer Edition, which has all the
functionality of Enterprise Edition. What is different is licensing.
Developer Edition is for just that. That is, you cannot run a production
database on Developer Edition.
