Finding out how many times a table is accessed

We have an application that accesses a particular table, but it is
never updated. Without stepping through the complex application code,
is there a method of logging when a particular table is accessed?

How do you access the table? If you use stored procedure (and you should)
you could make additional table and insert data in it each time the stored
procedure is executed.

Probably the quickest and easiest way is to create a trace with Profiler -
you can filter on the table name and the word SELECT, for example. See Books
Online for more information.

It's a VB6 based application, so the access is done through that.
Basically, the application is quite old, so enhancements have been
done to it over the years, making some things - such as this - quite
hard to establish

Our new generation software does use SP's, so you're right that it
would be easier to do.

Timings... sometimes there are almost too many ways to do the same thing. The only significant findings I see from all the below timings is: 1) Integer math is generally fastest, naturally. Bigint math isn't much slower, for integers that all fit within an integer. 2) Converting float to varchar is relatively slow, and should be avoided if possible. Converting from integer to varchar or varchar to int is several times faster.

With OS400, all files are objects that can be accessed relationally. When I view the file system from Navigator (windows client), I see there is the Database and SQL tables, then there is the filesystem. I can manipulate both these objects (tables, files) with SQL. So, what is the difference between a table and a file? --

Hi, I have a requirement to write an access application that must run under access97 and access2K. Some users will use Acess2K to access data that will also be accessed by Access97 users. The source data must therefore remain in Access97 format The user community has a mixture of access97 on WinNT; access2K on winNt and access2K on win2K.

I'm working on some procedures where Access queries are exported to Excel, and then later on, those same workbooks are openned, and I need to target a specific original sheet. Sometimes there will be multiple sheets in the same workbook, sometimes only a single tab. The issue is this: Save query "XLTest - qryExport" to file and the worksheet name becomes "XLTest___qryExport" (three underscores). I have a generic procedure which...

I have 100 tabes in an Access database, every table has 1 filed with 100 names (records), no primary key assigned. I would like to find duplicates. Here is the criteria: The computer should pick up the first name of Table1 and check that name in that table (Table1) as well as the remaining 99 tables. Continue this till we reach the last name (record) of the 100th table.

I am running a query in SQL 2000 SP4, Windows 2000 Server that is not being shared with any other users or any sql connections users. The db involves a lot of tables, JOINs, LEFT JOINs, UNIONS etc... Ok it's not a pretty code and my job is to make it better. But for now one thing I would like to understand with your help is why the same SP on the same server and everything the same without me changing anything at all in terms of SQL...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
