How do you "dump" a database with MS SQL?

Tried googling, but I guess I have the wrong terminology for MS
products.

Using PostgreSQL, or MySQL, if I wanted to tranfer a database from one
machine to another, I'd do a "dump" with a single command, such as:
mysqldump [databasename] > [path/filename]

Then I'd take the file generated and dump it back onto a new machine.

What's the process with MS SQL Server? Can someone point me in the
right direction to a webpage dealing with this?

Take a look at the BACKUP and RESTORE commands in SQL Server Books Online.

BACKUP DATABASE <dbName> TO DISK = '<path>'
RESTORE DATABASE <dbName> FROM DISK = '<path>'

Thanks,

Hi

See http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q314546 for the
various ways to move a database between two servers running SQL Server.

I am quite frustrated with php’s include, as I have spent a ton of time on it already... anyone can tell me why it was designed like this (or something I don’t get)? The path in include is relative NOT to the immediate script that is including it, but is relative to the top-level calling script. In practice, this means that you have to constantly worry and adjust paths in includes, based on the startup scripts that call these...

For ease of configuration and other reasons, I would like for my single-user GUI app to be able to use postgresql in-process as a library accessing a database created in the users home directory. I think I could possibly get what I want by launching a captive copy of postmaster with appropriate args but it seems conceptually cleaner to not have a seperate process at all. Has anyone tried to do anything like this? I've looked at sqlite...

postgresql 7.4.0, redhat 7.3 (under vmware 4.0 on win2k) Windows crashed and some of the files on Redhat got corrupted, including some files in /var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_xlog/. When I tried to start postmaster, it fails with message "Invalid primary checkPoint record". I think it was trying to look for files named "0000000000000021" but only files named "0000000000000022" through "0000000000000027" were there. So I ran pg_resetxlog (this is...

hello, I installed progresql 7.3.1, windows proof of concept, on a AMD 1.8 OS Windows XP. So it should run without cygwin. When I try to dump/restore a database I always get the message from windowsit can't find cygz.dll. Windows tells me to reinstall progresql. I assume I have to install extra libraries...or is it already a bug in the proof of concept?

This morning I got bitten by the "SELECT INTO" / "CREATE TABLE AS" from tables without OIDs bug in 7.4.1. Postmaster killed all the backends and restarted - pg was down for 2 seconds. This happened two times within a few minute period. Now I am getting 'invalid page header in block 52979 of relation "pg_attribute"' errors in the postgresql log file. I cannot reindex

I'm having a BLAST writing this app as OOP as PHP allows. It's one thing to discuss the dance, but it's a thing of beauty to see the performance. I'm noticing that the constructor is a "reset" switch - just like the one on the front of my computer. Calling it seems to just dump all of the old values, free up all of the old resources, and return the object to a pristine state. However, I'm a *little* concerned about just using the...

You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
