Insert into two tables, both with auto increment fields

Just when I though I knew what I was doing. I ran into a roadblock.

I have two tables, organizations & users

I am building a form online for orgs to input their own information.
How do I insert into both tables when the org table needs to know what the
user_id is, but the user_id hasn't been created until the form is submitted?

Any help or request for additional info would be more than great.

Thanks!

You can only insert into one table at once. Use SCOPE_IDENTITY to retrieve
the value of the last-inserted IDENTITY value.

INSERT INTO Users...

INSERT INTO Organizations (user_id, col1, col2, ...
SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY( ), 'col1 value', 'col2 value', ...

If you need to retrieve more than one IDENTITY value then use the natural
key of the table to retrieve the values after inserting. If you haven't
declared a natural key then do so.

Hello all, I'm using SS2K on W2k. I'v got a table say, humm, "Orders" with two fields in the PK: OrderDate and CustomerID. I would like to add an "ID" column which would be auto-increment (and would be the new PK). But, I would really like to have orders with the oldest OrderDate having the smallest ID number and, for a same OrderDate, I'd to have the smallest CustomerID first. So my question is:

I've read and split a delimited text file into a dataset. It looks fine in a datagrid (5 columns and 5,000 rows), but I've been trying, without success, to then insert the resulting dataset called "result" into a single sql table that has an auto-increment and PK column called ID, as well as the 5 columns from the dataset. Any suggestions on a way to perform the insert of the "result" dataset into the sql table?

Hi, Is there an "easy" way to write a full record (all fields) using "INSERT INTO..." into a table which has an AutoNumber field? Normally, to write a full new record I would use: INSERT INTO VALUES (Value1, Value2, ...); If (say) the first field (Value1) is an AutoNumber, what value can you put that will preserve the auto-increment function?

Hello scripters - OS: Mac OSX Language: PHP w/ MySQL database I've created an insert page where a user inputs his info, which then goes to four different tables in a MySQL database. The tables are all linked with the field 'member_id', which is an auto-increment field in the parent table ('members'). I've been able to input multiple records into the other three tables 'specialty_groups', 'committee_interest' and 'committee_member'...

Can someone help me out with this one. I am trying to insert a row of data into an access database. The primary key is set to auto increment. It will work once but the next time you try an insert it says. "The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship. " This error occurs on the daComputers.Update(dsHardware, "Computers") line Here is the...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
