Getting a Stored Procedure to wait 20 seconds

2 New Member
Hello there - hoping someone can offer some advice.

I am using SQL Server 2000 and want a stored procedure to execute 20 seconds after a particular field on a table is updated using a trigger on the table to be updated. Any ideas on how this would be achievable - any help would be greatly appreciated.

SQL Server has a 'WAITFOR' command; I suggest you read its help.

What is the overhead of using extended stored procedures? I created a table with 500,000 rows. 1) I ran a select on two columns and it runs in about 5 seconds. 2) I ran a select on one column and called an UDF (it returns a constant string) and it takes 10 seconds. 3) I ran a select on one column and called a UDF that calls an extended stored procedure that returns a string and it takes 65 seconds. I also tried running test 3 with 4...

ASP.NET: Any suggestions on how to display an animated .gif file on a web page while a stored procedure is running in the background? For example, on some of the airline sites, it asks you to wait while a reservation is being placed. During that time that the process is running on the server, they frequently show some sort of graphic that implies "don't touch anything - we're working." The problem: If I post a page with the graphic,...

Same problem that I had before, diffrent approach.. In my application at order-creation, the user might encounter that the item he is trying to order is locked by another user, and he have to wait up to 45 seconds for it to release. Now, In my windows application that is no problem, I simply call a dialog box in a new thread, that show the information, everything works great.

Hi, When I pass a date time parameter the stored procedure takes about 45 seconds, when I hard code the parameter it returns in 1 second. How can I rewrite my stored procedure? @createddatelower datetime WHERE dbo.tblCaseHistory.eventdate > dateadd(d,-7,@createddatelower ) AND dbo.tblCaseHistory.eventdate < dateadd(d,-6,@createddatelower ) (45

Hi people, I am wondering how to do this. Let's say that you execute a long running insert or whatever stored procedure from your application. It runs for a while (minute or two) and it runs on the SQL Server. So your application doesn't know it's status. Is it possible to get the status of the work and how long it will take, so you can inform your user by displaying a progressbar or something. The problem I have is to get an information...

Hi, I have a stored procedure that I want to execute and then wait in a loop showing a timer whilst it completes and then carry on once I get notification that it has completed. The main reason for this being to stop the user thinking the application has frozen when in fact it is just waiting for a long SP to complete. Another reason for doing it like this is that I also have had a problem in the past where the SP takes longer than the...

Some of the Stored procedures take hours to complete. procedures and the page come right back and recording infomation about the stored procedure (like a job number) that can later be used to report what stored procedures are still running.

Greetings, I've got a website that has several pages with DataGrid controls on them. The controls are bound to Object Datasources. On one of the pages I keep getting a "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding." error. The data is being filled from a Stored Procedure on an SQL Server. When I run the Stored Procedure on the actual server, it is only taking 24...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
