Our users have potentially dirty legacy data that they need to get into our application. We provide a set of staging tables, which map to our source tables, that the users do their ETL into. Every row in the source tables has a generated integer id. Every row in both the source and staging tables has a unique publicid (varchar(22)). All foreign key references in the staging tables are through publicids. (The foreign key reference could...

I have a question about best practices of how to deal with lookup data from my C# apps. On a couple of occasions I have come across a problem where I have to automate inserting a record into a table that has a foreign key constraint that is linked to a lookup table. E.g. Take the following database structure: SQL-Server Database: Table 1:

I want to be able to generate SQL statements that will go through a list of data, effectively row by row, enquire on the database if this exists in the selected table- If it exists, then the colums must be UPDATED, if not, they must be INSERTED. Logically then, I would like to SELECT * FROM <TABLE> WHERE ....<Values entered here>, and then IF FOUND UPDATE <TABLE> SET .... <Values entered here> ELSE INSERT INTO <TABLE> VALUES <Values...

i need to update a column which is a member of the PK on this table. there are some thousands of rows to be updated, many more thousand already in the table. so, i get a constraint violation doing a simple set col1 = 'x' where col1 = 'y' attempted (in general terms; col1 & col2 are the PK)

Hi, I'm scratching together an Access database. The development box is Office 95, the deployment box Office 2003. So anyways I am griping about forms and global variables. Say for example I'm adding a customer. The Customer fields are mostly foreign keys that refer to primary keys in other tables, left join instead of junction tables at this point. So, when I want to add a customer record, I also need to add records to the other...

Hi everyone, I have a small problem regarding a wizard that I'm making on my website. The wizard is obviously a series of pages that take values from the user. My question is: - Should I store all the values entered until the last page and then update the database, or should I do it as I go.

I cannot get my OleDbDataAdapter to update my database table from my local dataset table. The Knowledge Base doesn't seem to help - see item 10 below. I have a Microsoft Access 2000 database which indexes computer magazine articles for personal reference. I am developing a Visual Basic.NET program whose sole purpose is to enter new records into the database. No updates to existing entries, no deletions, and no display

Hi First a simple question ... I have a table "access_log" that has foreign keys "app_id" and "app_user_id" that reference the "application_type" and "app_user" tables. When I insert into "access_log", the referential integrity triggers generate these queries: SELECT 1 FROM ONLY "public"."application_type" x

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
