Hi all,
I'm trying to connect to an MS Access database using ADO.NET and C#, but I'm
getting the dreaded "Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file 'x'.
It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to
view its data."
Any ideas as to why? I set up a connection using Jet 4.0 and I'm able to
open the database from within VC#.

I've been blazing through John Sharp and Jon Jagger's "Microsoft
Visual C# .NET Step by Step" book, but I've hit a bit of a roadblock
once I made it to the database section. Specifically, chapter 24,
"Using a Database."

When I try to connect to an SQL Server developer edition database using
server explorer in vb.net standard I get the following message:
Unable to connect to database. It is only possible to connect to SQL Server
Desktop Engine databases ..with this version of Visual Studio
Is there any way around this. I would like Vb.net to talk to sql sever.
maybe an upgrade is needed?

Hi
I am a poor student studying towards my MCSD. I have managed to get a
cheapish student version of vb.net. Problem is that this version does not
connect to sql databases and I need it to because access ... well I just do!
I was wondering if anybody knows of any 3rd party tools or com objects etc
that would enable me to make this life giving connection?

I had SQL2000 server running fine on the windows 2003 box. I then installed
SQL 2005 Express. They both worked together fine. I then uninstalled SQL
2005 Express and installed SQL 2005 Server. But when I open SQL Server
Management Studio, I can only connect to the SQL 2000 engine. In the Object
explorer, it says v8.0.2039 (which I think is SQL 2000 Server, because I can
see the existing SQL 2000 databases).
