My co-worker, no idiot, says that the tooltip in the system tray for
the SS2000 icon usually shows the computer and server, but once in a
while shows the password (two slashes and the password).
Is this a known bug of some sort? It really shouldn't be showing his
password. It's likely the developer edition, but still, that isn't
good.

I believe the \\xxx is the name of the server. I the person that installed
SQL server put the SA password as the server name, then he is an idiot. If
you hover the mouse over the server with the green triangle, it will show
that the sql server \\xxx is running.

Normally, almost all the time in fact, the tooltip does show the
machine and sql instance name. But he claims that he has seen the
password there on rare occasion. The only way to know if this is
possible is to look at the code. It is entirely possible that some
programmer used a variable that is periodically updating the tooltip,
and used it for something else for a second. It won't be the first

I use Visual Studio 2005 and created a very simple Form with one button. I
added a Tooltip for that button. It shows fine the first time I hover over
that button. But if I let it disappear by the maximum time it should be
displayed, it never shows again over that button. Is that intended? And what
can I do to make it show again?

working on a project in VS2005 I started to add ToolTips.
My problem now is, that each ToolTip only shows once.
mouving the mouse over a button shows its tooltip, moving to the next button
show the coresponding tooltib.
If I now move back to the first button the tooltip does not popup again.
Is there "some setting" responsible for that? What must I do, that the
tooltip is shown every time the mouse moves over the control?

I have to take this personally now. Tooltips have been flakey since the dawn
of .NET, but to still have to put up with a disappearing tooltip in VS 2008
is getting beyond a joke. Tooltips have always done this, so isn't it about
time they were fixed?
I have a tooltip that I assign to a button control on my form. I hover over
the button and up pops the tooltip. I move away and the tooltp fades. I
hover again, and back comes the tooltip....

I have a list item that has descriptions that are wider that the width of
the listbox and you can't always tell what the item says since the last half
of the item is cut off.
