1 New Member

Is it true that to operate merge replication with MSDE on a laptop / desktop to a server running SQL Server the user requires local admin rights to their laptop / desktop?

I have a distributed inventory control database that I am going to migrate from Access to SQL Server. I am going to use SQL Server Replication to keep the data current. There will one SQL Server 2000 database at HeadOffice, and about 200 branches will each have MSDE 2000. For tables that are the same for each branch (e.g. StockItems, Suppliers), I'm going to use Transactional replication with the HeadOffice as Publisher. There is no...

I am interested if anyone can point me to "best practices" regarding the level of administrative authority a SQL Server database administrator should have. Alternatively, I'd be interested hearing what level of authority on the server you/your SQL Admin has. I have been told that in order to do their job, a database admin needs full admin authority on the operating system in a Microsoft environment, but I find that hard to believe. ...

MSDE 2000 Release A installed under windows 2000 pro will not communicate with SQL Server Manager nor MS Access on peer computer. Can someone help? Have set DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0 at install time. I'm looking for a simple way of telling (inside a stored procedure) if I'm currently using MSDE or a full SQL server. Ideally, there is some pre-defined environment variable that won't cause me too much overhead. The reason I'm doing this is because my system "rolls over" databases when it reaches the 2Gb limit with MSDE, but obviously I want to avoid this overhead if the user installs onto a full SQL server instance. Thanks

Hi all, Here is my situation. I have an application that uses SQL 2000. The client has a program that uses MSDE. The client MUST have the MSDE version of the Database. What I have done is to create a SQL 2000 Database that is exactly like the MSDE version. What I wish to do, is at regularly scheduled intervals, update the SQL 2000 Data with the newest MSDE Data. On my clients server, they have both MSDE and SQL 2000 installed the...

I'm running an Access2000 front end mde linked to an Access2000 back end mdb. I need to set up replication and synchronization of only the data tables between the master db on the pc and replicas on numerous laptops. I know that it can be done using the Access replication manager (although without a simple UI in the front end mde), but the question is: If I link the FE to MSDE rather to Access, can I 1.) provide a more

Hello All, I apology for posting to many groups but I wasn't sure which group would be best targeted with my question. I have inherited an ASP.Net application that requires some maintenance & bug fixes. I have been asked to also download a copy of the remote SQL Server database that it uses on the background for potential maintenance and changes as well.

Hi All, I am trying to access MSDE from ASP.NET application without giving administrative privileges to ASPNET user. It gives an error message saying "Cannot login to SQL server for ASPNET". Can't I access the MSDE in local machine or across network without giving administrative privileges to ASPNET? I tried accessing MSDE in another machine by giving <identity impersonate="true" userName="" password="" /it doesn't work. But i tried...

My application is calculation intensive and the servers are agonizingly slow. Administrators of my application only update the backends once a month (twice a month max). So, my launching program allows the back-end file to be downloaded to the user's PC. This will provide maximum speed for these calculations/manipulations of data. Without this, just logging into the main app connected to the server back-end file can take five minutes...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
