Query with Group By Causes TimeOut Error

I have a table with 6 million rows.
I'm trying to perform a group by query that incudes a row count of the
PK column:

SELECT COUNT(DataID) AS Cnt, Column1Name
FROM dbo.TableName
WHERE (Column2Name = N'p')
GROUP BY Column1Name

I have the query timeout set to 0 in Enterprise Manger. However, if I
run this query, either in Enterprise Manager or in Query Analyzer, I
get the following error message:

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired

A little baffled as to why and how to run this query.

Any help is appreciated.

I thought this is more of an IE issue but i've had no joy on that group perhaps somebody here will have a clue. If i click a link to a web page embedded in Excel (97 OR 2000) i get the standard error page displayed by IE (you know, the 'cannot find server or dns error' page). Turning off 'show friendly http error messages' alleviates this. (Unfortunately this is the Windows default setting!) Whats going on?!?!

I've got a c# app that reads a database of 3,000 records. "Interesting" thing is when I access 3 certain records, I get a database timeout error. The code is very simple, and runs fine for the other 2,999 records, and if I run the exact same SQL with query analyzer, it runs fine. Anyone come across a similar problem, or know what I should be looking at for this? Dunc

I am trying to perform a very long query on an MSSQL database, using ASP.NET, and making the code behind in VB.NET. I have been receiving timeout error, so I thought I would add Connect Timeout to my connection string. However this appears to have no effect. The connection string is set up as follows Dim conn As New SqlClient.SqlConnection("Data Source=serverName; User ID=userName; Password=password; Connect Timeout=9999") Any ideas...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
