You can search on the string 8946 in Books Online.
As I understand the topic, the only way to repair is restore from a
clean backup. DBCC can repair many problem, but the topic says that if
the error is in an PFS_PAGE it's not repairable. (I'm looking at Books
Online for SQL 2000. 2005 may be different.)
Can this error prevent a user from connecting to the database?
As such, I don't think so. But a user who hits this broken page may
experience an assertion error and be disconnected. And if the page is
hit while logging into the server, then connection may fail.

This error can't be repaired in any version of SQL Server - you must restore
from a backup.

Bit of confirmation needed really, as I've just come home and found that my
PC is only running SQL 7.0, when I know the below code only works in SQL
2000 (I think!!!).
What I want to do is put a particular DB in single user mode, do a DBCC
repair_rebuild then put it back to how it was all from a text file that is
executed via osql (MSDE's isql equivalent). Will the below do it?

maintenance plan that includes both a backup and a CHECKDB Integrity
Check.
The backups appear to run correctly each night, but if a user leaves a
connection open to a database all night, the CHECKDB fails.

I have a table where I store around 1 million rows for 7 days.
I run a DBCC SHOWCONTIG every week and I noticed that the number of
Rows and the Average Free Bytes are stable but the number of Extents
and the Average Record Size keeps increasing.
Any idea how to explain this incrase? and how to stop it? Will DBCC
