We are using Merge replication with clients from remote offices (SQL
2000, sp3). Recently, I have had a problem with users who are
replicating, and they shut down their laptops. The connection never
dies, and I end up with major blocking issues related to the
"orphaned" spid. The tables that are blocked are used to filter data
on each client. Since the orphaned spid is blocking, backups will run
forever, and have to be killed, and a...

One of the table that is in a merge replication somehow is missing an
index. Strangely, only the table in one of the subscriber of the merge
replication is missing the index; another subscriber and the publisher
of the merge replication don't have this problem.
How should I add the missing index back to that table? My understanding
is that making structural change on a table that is in
merge-replication is different from making change on...

I need to synchronize 3 databases (1 Master and 2 replicas). I thought I'd
give the Replica feature in Access2000 a whirl. I'm not sure I'm THAT
impressed.....but maybe I'm just doing something wrong. I'll outline the
issues below and then maybe someone who has experience with replicating this
way can tell me if this is the route I should take, or if I should just use
my own routine which compares strings for each field.
1) I've...

I need advice about my decision to go with Replication in general.
This post was placed on the Microsoft Replication newsgroup, but
I really value the feedback that comes from this group as well.
I have a new client who want their Excel data moved to Access.
They have only 4-6 users of this data and a couple of them want
to work disconnected, with their laptops and synchronize when
they come into the office. The database will be...

Hi,
I've been using an Access application I wrote for an office with the
front-end stored on all computers and the back-end on one of them serving as
an Access file server.
Now we're moving to a 2nd office 15 minutes down the road. Only one office
will be open at a time, so theoretically it'd be possible to copy the
back-end manually every night from one office to another, but frankly,
that's pretty annoying.

Hello, I'm having a problem replicating a simple database using the binary
log replication, here is the problem:
When the master sends an update to the slave, an example update reads as
follows:
UPDATE MainInfo SET dAddress='38 Holland Blvd', dCity='miami',
dState='FL', dZip='33000', dCountry='USA', dPhone='999987565',
dNum='AC15857', dName='Michael A Scott' WHERE did=22'

Hi,
I have an issue with my replication at the moment. I will try to
describe the scenario accurately.
I am using MS SQL 2000 SP4 with Merge Replication. Subscribers connect
to the publisher to upload/download changes. I have a trigger set up on
one table which updates another, here is an example of the trigger:
"CREATE TRIGGER qt_t_projTotal ON dbo.qt_quotes

Hello everyone,
I am involved in a scenario where there is a huge (SQL Server 2005)
production database containing tables that are updated multiple times
per second. End-user reports need to be generated against the data in
this database, and so the powers-that-be came to the conclusion that a
reporting database is necessary in order to offload report processing
from production; of course, this means that data will have to be
replicated...

I am relatively new to the replication process in Access.
My issue is that I have a Design Master and one replica. End users have been using the replica and adding data to the tables. I recently added a column in one of the tables on the Design Master. The column replicated to the replica, but now the data from the replica that the end user are entering is not replicating back to the Design Master.
What should I do to correct the...

ONU (Optical Network Unit) is one of the key components for providing high-speed Internet services. Its primary function is to act as an endpoint device located at the user's premises. However, people are often confused as to whether an ONU can Work As a Router. In this blog post, we’ll explore What is ONU, What Is Router, ONU & Router’s main usage, and What is the difference between ONU and Router. Let’s take a closer look !
Part I. Meaning of...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
