Table spool/Lazy spool question

Greetings,

In Google I am finding what the deffinition of a table spool operator is
but not what it is doing to performance. The execution plan shows the
output of a clustered Index scan (54 records) going into the Table Spool
operator and having a output of 218,000 records out. Where do the 218,000
records come from??

Hello, I have a table which has a few million records. It has an IDENTITY column that serves as the primary key. In a part of our application here, a previous record may need to be copied as a new row. Within a stored procedure exists SQL like: INSERT INTO .. (col1, col2, col3, ...) SELECT @var1, col2, col3, ... FROM My_Table

Hi, Currently we're a building a metadatadriven datawarehouse in SQL Server 2000. We're investigating the possibility of the updating tables with enormeous number of updates and insert and the use of checkpoints (for simple recovery and Backup Log for full recovery). On several website people speak about full transaction log and the pace of growing can't keep up with the update. Therefore we want to create a script which flushes the...

What causes the query optimizer to choose a table spool\lazy spool action in the execution plan? The explanation of "optimize rewinds" makes little sense because my query never comes back to that table. I'm going to have to change the query but it would be helpful if I knew what I should be trying to avoid. David

Our application is having an issue where a query in a stored procedure periodically gets a bad plan with a Lazy Spool Operator that changes the query execution time from 5ms to 900ms and kills our CPU. We are running x64 SQL 2005 SP2 on Windows 2003 SP2. We thought it might be parameter sniffing that was causing the bad plan, so we re-wrote the query to disable parameter sniffing. Unfortunately, that made the problem worse as we always...

With the recent release of EF I've decided to dig into it a bit more than I did before... the question I'm specifically interested in, but haven't been able to find a resource to answer it is... when using Table-per-Type with inherited entities, is it possible to lazy load the base classes? For example, if I have an entity called "Person" and an entity called "Employee" and (obviously) Employee inherits from Person, is it possible to...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
