Hello. I am getting an InvalidCastException which has revealed yet more of my ignorance. I cant believe i dont already know this and haven't encountered it before until now. I am consuming a dataset from a webservice. I wrote both the server and client apps and the both use the same middle teir. I fill a dataset on the server that has a relationship between two of the tables inside. The relationship is between two strongly typed tables...

Hi... I'm working on a tool for editing text resources for a family of software product my company produces. These text resources are found in a SQL Server database, in a table called "Resource" with the following structure : Resource{,en,fr,es} Yes.. these are the only languages supported actually. A couple of rows in that table would look like this :

Hi all, I am getting an intermittant error after uploading a project from my development machine. I click on a link which opens an aspx page that, upon page load, reads a very small amount of data from an MS Access database, using ODBC and a stored query. There is no problem on my development machine. On the production server though, I get the intermittant error shown below. If I click back and forth between the problem page and the...

I would like to be able to validate an XML file before it is (or as it is being) read into a DataSet. I have a class that dynamically creates a DataSet with typed columns based on another "record definition" class. Then I use this DataSet to write and read data to and from an XML file My issue is that I as I make revisions to my application and change the type of data a certain (DataSet Column) node contains, It causes my DataSet to...

I am using VB ASP.NET. In my page I convert an uploaded XML file to a dataset as follows: Dim ds1 As DataSet = New DataSet ds1.ReadXml(strPathName, XmlReadMode.Auto) Now I want to append all the rows of ds1 to an existing table in an SQL Server database. I know I can do things like looping through the dataset and issuing Update SQL statements to do this but I suspect there is a better

In an 2.0 asp app I used vs.net 2005 to create a TableAdapter:Dataset in my App_code directory. I also created a new vb class in that same directory. I have two issues: 1. I notice that there are errors in the xml code for the dataset... <TableAdapter BaseClass="system.ComponentModel.Component" DataAccessorModifier... the DataAccessorModifier is underlined as an error - if I hover over it, it says that attribute is not declared. ...

Is there any sort of query engine for use with .NET datasets? I have an application that has a very small disconnected client database - 2 dozen tables, largest table @100 rows. If loaded into a dataset and then saved to disk the absolute worst case file wouldn't even be 10 meg... However, to present data to the user, the application would need to issue a very complicated select statement; inner & outer joining most of the tables,...

I have a wizard on a page that will dynamically create a dataset as it goes along based on user input. When the wizard is done, it will dump all of the data it collected/created in the wizard to an xml file. Should this be an in memory version or a dataset or a file based dataset?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
