I am trying to query my SQL 2000 SP3 database for some info but can't
seem to figure out how to get what I want. I have a fairly simple
situation.... the data I want is in two tables, one with a single row
for every computer in my domain and another with multiple rows for each
computer that shows software installed on the computer. It looks
something like this:
Computers Table
---------------
CompName OS BIOS etc.
-------- -- ----
Comp1 XP XYZ
Comp2 XP XYZ
Software Table
--------------
CompName Software Package
-------- ----------------
Comp1 Adobe Acrobat Reader
Comp1 Microsoft Office
Comp1 Winzip
Comp2 Adobe Acrobat Reader
Comp2 Microsoft Visio
Comp2 Winzip
What I want to do is to figure out what computers from the computers
table DO NOT have a specific piece of software installed. I have
figured out how to find out which ones have it, but not the reverse.
Sorry if this is a simple one, but I am fairly new to SQL and haven't
figure out the different types of joins and union statements yet. 2 1096
You can do this with a subquery, using the NOT EXISTS option
SELECT ColList
FROM Computers
WHERE CompName NOT EXISTS (SELECT CompName
FROM Software
WHERE SoftwarePackage = 'WinZip')
The subquery first pulls back all of the computers which do have Winzip
on them, and the outer query shows the list of computers that are not
in the subquery.
Stu
Thanks Stu,
I never could get your suggestion to work. I always got an empty
result set, even if there were computers with no corresponding software
row. But you led me down the right path. After searching Books
Online, I was able to make this work:
SELECT computer_name, computer_invent ory_date
FROM dbo.computers
WHERE (computer_name NOT IN
(SELECT computer_name
FROM software
WHERE software_name = 'Winzip'))
Thanks a lot.

I have PHPDEV 4.2.3 from Firepages.com.au as the upgrade to 4.3.0 did

The REAL problem is that PHPmyAdmin works and sees my test database

But my PHP program does not!

Hi, This is kind of last minute, I have a day and a half left to figure
this out. I'm working on a project using ms-sqlserver. We are
creating a ticket sales system, as part of the system, I need to be
able to do a search for specific tickets withing price ranges,
different locations within the theaters, etc. etc.
My problem is in the search one of the criteria is to search for a
group of seats together. For example let's say...

Hi,
I am using PostgreSQL 7.4, but I did have the same problem with the
last version.
I indexed the column word (defined as varchar(64)) using lower(word).
If I use the following query, everything is fine, the index is used and
the query is executed very quickly:
select * from token where lower(word) = 'saxophone';

Hi folks,
I have a problem with an MS Access SQL query which is being used in an
Access Report, and am wondering if anyone can help.
Basically, my query (shown below) gets some records from a couple of
tables in my database using INNER JOINS and the WHERE clause to
specify the required constraints. However, I also want to read two
fields from a *single* record from a table called 'Locations' and then
apply one of these field's values...

Hi:
As those who have looked at this newsgroup recently will realize, I am a neophyte with
Access, although I have experienced with Approach (the Lotus product). There are things I
could easily do in Approach that appear to require some subtle and complex manipulation in
Access. Herein lies my present problem.
I have a number of tables, including one called "tblPO", which contains purchase orders.
Some of the details of these change...

I need to understand why if I add a control and use AddHandler to connect its
click event, it will work in Page_Load, but not in a Button_Click.
The idea is that the user types some data, presses the button, gets a list
of results (each with a LinkButton) and can then press one of the link
buttons to get further information. The newly added link buttons appear, but
the click event added with AddHandler does not fire.
A control added in...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.

I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
