Can epub files communicate with a server?

2 New Member
I need help on epub files if it can communicate with a server. Epub files are for making e-books. We are having an issue where a client needs to know if we can push updated material to an epub file. I need to know if its possible or not. Thanks in advance!

Hi peyenko and welcome to bytes.com!

The wikipedia article on the EPUB format explains, that EPUB is an XML- and ZIP-based format. Now, XML is mainly used for markup (though XSLT and XPath can do more) which would make such functionality difficult. Also, and this is very important, EPUB is an open format which leaves a lot of implementation issues to the makers of eBook reading software; this means that even if you find a way to implement this kind of communication it may depend on the software used to read the eBook.
That said, there are two ideas I would have that may work.
  1. Check out Adobe Content Server; this is software used by many EPUB readers to implement DRM. There might (!) be a way to use that for your purposes.
  2. Go to the idpf epub site (the International Digital Publishing Forum created the specifications for EPUB 3.0) and read through the specifications. Maybe even visit their forums. There might be something there.
  3. If you're publishing via iBooks, there is an updating mechanism described here.
In general however I'm not sure how good the chances are so I'm not making any promises.

Hi, Can someone please tell me if there's a way to copy image files from one server to another using ASP and FSO? Or perhaps some other way to do it? I'm trying to collect information on books, and want to have a picture of the book associated with the description, but I want to be nice and host the pictures myself, not just link to other people's pictures. Is there a way to do this? Any help will be greatly appreciated! :)

Basically, i need to copy files from "develope server" to the "test server", then eventually to the "production server". But i don't know how to deal with this. Do you have any example code or hint? I appreciate in advance!

I've got the simple problem where I'd like to transfer somewhat large files to my webserver via http/webservice/something like that. My question is what kinda limits have people been able to hit? Is 500mb unreasonable or not. Client doesnt have to be a typical webbrowser, so I could theoretically chunk it up and send chunks to the server, when completed, re- assemble and write file etc.

I can't find the right class or object to use. Is it the File class or the FolderBrowser? Stuck like Chuck!!! Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Hi have a .net web application using crystal reports. I ended up exporting the reports to the server since I needed to dynamically change the default name of each. Anyhow just wondering if there is any automatic cleanup procedure I could impliment to delete files that are a week or more old? The files are named for example 6_21_2007report1.pdf. Thanks -- Paul G Software engineer.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
