I'm not a windows specialist but I'm afraid that even if you find a place where password is stored (it is something called SAM file i guess) you will not be able to read it because it is hashed.

Don't be so quick to judge. I would read rski post again as he gave you what the file is called where user names and passwords are located. Search google for SAM files and read up. Also read up on SAM files and windows hashing.

I need to find a way of distributing a sample app, in the form of an ASP.NET 2.0 application, using an InstallShield installation. We use a build script that copies the app folder contents to a shared drive, then the installer picks it up from there. The problem is that when the installation is run from a clean test machine, the installed ASP.NET app doesn't have the same startup page as the one configured on development machines. ...

Hi, I'm having real trouble locating configuration settings on an existing website. Details follow: I've recently taken over a website developed with ASP.NET. Unfortunately the original developer has left the company and has left no documentation whatsoever. I've successfully managed to make a few updates to the website but I've recently hit a snag.

I was under the impression that when I create session variables such as session("myVar1"), they get stored on the client in a cookie. When I look in my Temporary Internet Files directory for the cookie, I don't see anything. Am I looking in the right place? Here are my session state settings, they are default: <!-- SESSION STATE SETTINGS By default ASP.NET uses cookies to identify which requests belong to a particular session.

Hi, I am developing an application that needs to store some machine-specific settings. The application is going to be published on the network in order to keep the clients on the latest version. Because of this, I am unable to store these settings in the App.Config file, as this gets updated every time the application does, and there doesn't appear to be a way of preventing this. Most of my application settings are kept in the...

I need to write a VB.NET WinForms app. For this purpose I need to keep some settings of the application, like many other Windows applications do. The most obvious solution is to store settings in the XML file or registry. If it's an XML file, then I need the following: 1. Create XSD schema, and be able to validate XML file with the settings against that schema (How would I store the schema, if it's a class library, for example? Would...

If I add a setting to my project in the settings designer and mark it as a user setting, and then access and modify the setting via code, where is the updated setting stored so that it won't be used for other users? Is this a feature only for Windows apps?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
