What could go wrong?

Hi All,
I am developing an object oriented OS code-named "ikbocs".
1) What are the pros and cons of the following languages interms of
Effectiveness on System Programming, Object Orientedness etc ?
(Simula, Smalltalk, Modula-3, Eiffel, Sather, C++)
I suppose Java is not suitable for Sys. Programming.
2) Which OOP language would be better for OS development?
TIA

I am looking for a Linux distribution and a standard C++ compiler (IDE
not too important) that can also compile to Win32, to run on my Dell
dimension 2400... I have trouble with new distros since installing a
USB 2 card. I am wondering if it is better to get a new machine and
dedicate it to Linux and C++ development and deal with cross platform
issues later, alternatively use something like Borland C++ on Windows.

Is DB2 Development Center an addon product that I have to download or
purchase separately? I can't seem to find it in any of my downloads

(Forewarning, most of these problems and solutions come from being the
only developer in a 1 server department with no budget, few resources,
unresponsive IT, and non-technical managers, so thats where I'm coming
from.)
(Additionally, this may or may not fit in this group, but I know
there's bright people here, and it is largely PHP development centric)
Any time I've done web development, I've always been plagued by some of

Hi,
I just started a new web developer job (my first actually) and the
machine they gave me to use is a Mac. Two days in and I'm running a
Win XP environment on my Mac at work (using VMWare), firstly so I can
use my favourite text editor (ConTEXT) which is only available for
windows and secondly because I've never used a Mac before.
But what do you think is the best all round development platform that
I should use as a Web Developer?...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
