Hello,
sorry for bothering, I'm not a programmer and I don't do much python,
I'm more a networking guy trying to get his favourite linux distribution
to update through the shiny new protocol IPv6 again (for those who are
interested, I'm talking about Gentoo Linux)
Gentoo's portage system is implemented in python calling rsync to sync
with a mirror server. There are rotations (metahostnames with many
address records) where portage has...

I want to determine the outside (non local, a.k.a. 127.0.0.x) ip
addresses of my host. It seems that the socket module provides me with
some nifty tools for that but I cannot get it to work correctly it seems.
Can someone enlightened show a light on this:
import socket
def getipaddr(hostname='default'):
"""Given a hostname, perform a standard (forward) lookup and return
a list of IP addresses for that host."""

How to obtain the IP address of the interface that is connected to the
Internet?
I´m using the code below to get IP address of the local machine:

{
string HostName = Dns.GetHostName();
lblHostName.Text=HostName;
IPHostEntry ipEntry = Dns.GetHostByName (HostName);
IPAddress addr = ipEntry.AddressList;

Sorry for the silly newbie question.
Our manager has directed us to use the getaddrinfo() instead of the
deprecated gethostbyname().
The problem is, I don't know where getaddrinfo() get its address
information. It seems to ignore entries placed in the hosts table.
Help!

I have an application that uses a socket. One of the users was complaining
that it would not work if they put the computer name in but only worked if
they put the IP address in. I had them run the below test program and the
problem was the first IP address is not valid. Obviously I need to do
better checking but does anybody have a clue why such an address would come
back anyway?
CODE:
string HostName = System.Net.Dns.GetHostName();...

Hi - I am using this url_exists function: to check whether files exist
on other peoples webservers (before allowing my users to add the site
to their directory of rss feeds). On my current shared hosting (running
Apache 1.3.29 Red Hat Linux PHP 4.3.10) the function works perfectly.
On my new, Plesk VPS system (running Apache 2.0.51 Fedora PHP 4.3.10)
it doesn't work - I get this error:
php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed

I noticed the following lines from the connect() method of the
HTTPConnection class within httplib:
for res in socket.getaddrinfo(self.host, self.port, 0,
socket.SOCK_STREAM):
af, socktype, proto, canonname, sa = res
This led me to the docs that describe the socket.getaddrinfo() method:

Here's a strange little bug. "socket.getaddrinfo" blows up
if given a bad domain name containing ".." in Unicode. The
same string in ASCII produces the correct "gaierror" exception.
Actually, this deserves a documentation mention. The "socket" module,
given a Unicode string, calls the International Domain Name parser,
"idna.py", which has a a whole error system of its own. The IDNA
documentation says that "Furthermore, the socket...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
