Whether you are a web surfer or a C++ developer, if you use Windows be
cautioned about SONY music CDs. They contain 'viewer' type software that is
actually a trojan horse for a "rootkit". The licence agreement gives no
indication whatsoever that the 'viewer' software contains the implementation
of a nasty near-impossible to remove rootkit software.

I was just showing a youngster some MS-SQL stuff on a remote Internet
enabled shared server. He logged in with my User Name and Password. I
was busy for a minute. Then he said, "This (stored procedure) doesn't
seem to have anything to do with the db we talked about." I looked at it
and said, "What the hell is that?"
It seems he had clicked on the wrong DB. And it was entirely open to
him, including data edit. We checked the other DBs ......

On-the-job, I have "inherited" a lot of old C language software.
A question or two about when "casting" of null pointer constants
is needed has occurred during behind-the-scenes cleanup
of some of that software. That subject seems not to be addressed,
at least not directly, in the C FAQ where FAQ 5.2 seems most relevant.

Hi everyone!
I am debugging a big piece of code on the search for memory leaks,
using g++ under suse 9.3.
Since I'm trying to eliminate ALL memory leaks, I now stumbled upon a
class foo that is not ever instantiated (thus no constructor or
destructor ever called), but instead, all of its member variables are
defined as static in the according .cpp file, and it's methods are
invoked by calling foo::bar(...) to invoke method "bar(...)".

I see that static is more restricted in C# than in C++. It appears
usable only on classes and methods, and data members, but cannot be
created within a method itself. Surely this is possible in C# in some
way? Or maybe no, because it is similar to a global variable (with its
scope restricted) which C# is dead against?

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
