Re: Python process communication

pr************* **@gmail.com wrote:
I'd like to write a script that will connect to another already running
process, pipe some data to it's input and receive data from it's output.
I can create another process using subprocess module, but how do I
connect to already running process? Maybe there is a better solution for
process communication? I've searched in the net and found nothing, so
I've decided to post my problem here, hopefully someone will help me.
do you control the other process? can you make it listen to a local
socket or a named pipe?

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi! I'm the developer of a Linux ISDN application which uses embedded Python for controlling the communication. It starts several threads (i.e. one for each incoming call and for outgoing faxes) which run Python scripts in embedded Python interpreters which in turn do the real communication stuff. Any incoming data or confirmations of done jobs are sent via Email.

I am writing programs that will run as TCP servers. Briefly, I want to set up a TCP server on a port in such a way that if another server is already sitting on that port (both servers are Python programs I will be writing), the old one is booted off (and its process ended). My master process is a test harness, which tests a script which as part of its functionality sends http GET messages. My test harness sets up an http server as a...

Hi all I am writing a multi-user accounting/business system. Data is stored in a database (PostgreSQL on Linux, SQL Server on Windows). I have written a Python program to run on the client, which uses wxPython as a gui, and connects to the database via TCP/IP. The client program contains all the authentication and business logic. It has dawned on me that anyone can bypass this by modifying the program. As it is written in Python, with...

Hello I am trying to send an event from a Python COM server to a VB (or VB.NET) COM client. I am a newbie both in VB and in python. Can anyone give me a simple (but complete) code example both of the Python server side and the VB client side for raising a single event. Any answer would be highly appreciated. Regards Gary

Alright, so I've been following some of the arguments about enhancing parallelism in python, and I've kind of been struck by how hard things still are. It seems like what we really need is a more pythonic approach. One thing I've been seeing suggested a lot lately is that running jobs in separate processes, to make it easy to use the latest multiprocessor machines. Makes a lot of sense to me, those processors are going to be more and...

Hi everyone! Here's the current scenario: I have a program in Python that computes something very fast (<1s), but it takes a considerable amount of time to read the startup data (>90s). Since the startup data is pretty static, I want this program to be resident and ready in memory all the time. The client-side of this program is a function in PostgreSQL. For the sake of simplicity, let's assume it is another program in Python that

The major complaint I have about Python is that the packages which connect it to other software components all seem to have serious problems. As long as you don't need to talk to anything outside the Python world, you're fine. But once you do, things go downhill. MySQLdb has version and platform compatibility problems. So does M2Crypto. The built-in SSL support is weak. Even basic sockets don't quite work right; the socket module...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
