Re: Getting stdout using ctypes.

You do that using the dup2() system call:
It's dangerous to mix streams and descriptors. Traditionally freopen()
is used to redirect a standard stream to a file:

http://www.gnu.org/software/libc/man...andard-Streams

— Function: FILE * freopen (const char *filename, const char *opentype,
FILE *stream)

This function is like a combination of fclose and fopen. It first
closes the stream referred to by stream, ignoring any errors that are
detected in the process. (Because errors are ignored, you should not use
freopen on an output stream if you have actually done any output using
the stream.) Then the file named by filename is opened with mode
opentype as for fopen, and associated with the same stream object stream.

If the operation fails, a null pointer is returned; otherwise,
freopen returns stream.

freopen has traditionally been used to connect a standard stream
such as stdin with a file of your own choice. This is useful in programs
in which use of a standard stream for certain purposes is hard-coded. In
the GNU C library, you can simply close the standard streams and open
new ones with fopen. But other systems lack this ability, so using
freopen is more portable.

Hello, I am working with comtypes to interface Microsoft's DirectShow library. First, I found a Type Library on the internet that was created for accessing DirectShow from .NET. It seems that DirectShow only comes with IDL files and no type library. This got me started.

Hi everyone! I'm writing a python script which uses a C-written dll. I call the functions in the dll using ctypes, but I don't know how to catch the output of the "printf" which the C functions use. In fact I don't even know if it is possible! I've heard something about PIPE and popen...is this what I need? How can I use them? It is very important for me that I could take the output in real-time. Thanks for the help! Massi

Hi everyone, I have a program which is written in C and interfaced with python via Ctypes. The functions I call print stuff out to the console, using the usual function printf. I would like to know if it is possible to redirect the output of my C module to python. I'm working on windows environment. Thanks in advance.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
