What I want to do is have an infinite loop to check if a program is running
or not and send data to my web server to check yes or no. Is this
possible? If so how?
you can execute OS system call.

here i execute ps -ef and grep the required process name (or you can grep by
pid on that particular column using awk)

import os
os.system("ps -ef | grep -v grep | grep <proc_name>")

in my system it gives result 0 if the process is running
>>a = os.system("ps -ef | grep -v grep | grep python")
root 8749 5331 0 Jul19 pts/1 00:00:00 python
>>a
0

else gives non 0 :
>>a = os.system("ps -ef | grep -v grep | grep python123")
a
256

you can check this inside while True:

I am sure there should be a far better solution that this in python.

Hi, I'm trying to create a program similar to that of Google's desktop that will crawl through the hard drive and index files. I have written the program and as of now I just put the thread to sleep for 1 second after indexing a couple of files. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way that I could make so that the program will run at full speed only runs after the computer has been idle for a while. I've looked at the "nice" command...

Hello, I would like to prevent my perl program to be executed several times simultaneously (if the program is already running, I would like to display a message like "another instance of this program is already running, please try again in a couple of minutes). For doing this, I guess I have to check the running processes... but I don't know how to do that and how I can identify my program in the running processes.

Hi all, I'm new to C. I have successfully written a small C program that acts as a "wrapper" around cgi scripts. These scripts perform admin tasks such as backing up etc. Obviously, The need for the "wrapper" was to get the scripts to run with "root" privileges. So far so good. I simply create a "URL shortcut" that some staff can double-click on to initiate the process. However, because I am creating these automated tasks for...

Aloha! I want to terminate a process/program from within a python script. For example, if I have a program say foo.sh that starts running, then I can run it from within a python script using os.popen('foo.sh') which starts a program/process say 'bar' At some point later, I want to kill 'bar'. Currently, I start off the process and then when the python script exits, the process 'bar' is

Hi Everybody: I'm having a difficult time figuring out a a memory use problem. I have a python program that makes use of numpy and also calls a small C module I wrote because part of the simulation needed to loop and I got a massive speedup by putting that loop in C. I'm basically manipulating a bunch of matrices, so nothing too fancy. That aside, when the simulation runs, it typically uses a relatively small amount of memory (about...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
