Re: multiple Python versions,but on Windows (how to handle registry updates)

I already have Python25, and need to install Python24. I would prefer not to
remove Python25, but each Python version seems to update the registry, I
guess (not sure), overwriting each other's entries. Any way to have both
versions ?
They can coexist peacefully. The last one you install will be the default version to handle .py files automatically.

You may want to create a batch file like this:

<begin python24.cmd>
@c:\python24\py thon.exe %*
<end python24.cmd>

(and a similar one for 2.5; put them somewhere on your PATH, like c:\windows\syst em32)
Usage: python24 somescript.py

Hi, I bought and read most of (excellent) Mark Hammond's book, Python programming on Win32. I started to make some sophisticated "hello world" app using win32ui (...) but I need some more information to make the bridge between this book and the MFC (black hole for me) in depth. Any advise on good reading, and some python examples ?

Hi all, We've been having a discussion over on the wxPython-users mailing list about how to deal with multiple versions of wxPython. During the discussion it came up that this isn't a problem faced only by wxPython, but would have to be dealt with by virtually all packages. The root of the problem is what to do when you install a new version of wxPython, and want to be able to keep using the old one. This question comes up frequently...

Hi everybody! Recently, I am having more and more problems with the fact that my Python version is far ahead of the Python versions I have to write scripts for (CGI servers, LAN servers & clients etc. of customers, ISPs etc.). Sometimes, these Python versions reach back to Python 2.0. The question is now, how to handle this kind of problems?

I would like to install several copies of Python 2.4.2 on my machine, but it doesn't seem to be possible. If I allready has a version installed, the installer only gives the options to: - change python 2.4.2 - repair python 2.4.2 - remove python 2.4.2

Would there be issues (registry settings, environment variables, whatever) if a person tried to install versions 1.x and 2.x simultaneously on one Windows system? Windows 98, if it matters. (I can handle the file associations with no problem.) Thanks. **************************

If you develop for others, you probably have multiple versions of Access installed so you can edit and create MDEs for clients in different versions. This works fine under Windows XP, even with Access 2007 installed. It does *not* work under Windows Vista Ultimate. After running Access 2007, when you open an earlier version of Access, no code works, because the references are fouled up. And Access 97 does not work at all. Access should...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
