Hi everyone!
How can I simply search text for regexps (lets say <a
href="(.*?)">(.*?)</a>) and save all URLs(1) and link contents(2) in a
dictionary { name : URL}? In a single pass if it could.
Or how can I replace the html &entities; in a string
"blablabla&blablabal&balbalbal" with the chars they mean using
re.sub? I found out they are stored in an dict . I though about this functionality:

Folks,
I once read an article in Linux Format whereby a technical writer had
made performance recommendations on a LAMP environment. One of the
points raised was for small columns in a database, that one is perhaps
better off to trade a small waste of space for a gain on performance -
The recommendation said that when you use VARCHAR(3) that MySQL searches
for disk space to take a record that will accept a variable length
value up to...

I have a lot of respect for David Fenton and Allen Browne, but I don't
understand why people who know how to write code to completely replace
a front end do not write something that will automate the code that
implements managing unbound controls on forms given the superior
performance of unbound controls in a client/server environment. I can
easily understand a newbie using bound controls or someone with a
tight deadline. I guess I need...

Hi,
I am not using C all the time. I have a general understanding of C
and nothing else. The recent reply to use strlcpy and strlcat showed
me that I am not aware of the best and safe techniques. Is there any
place where I could learn more about safer and better C (on FreeBSD)?
Thank you

Hi,
Sometimes I see this:
(string)DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Answer")
And sometimes this:
Eval(Container.DataItem, "Answer")
What is better (faster/performance) when publishing inside an aspx page?

Is it generally or almost always better to have multiple
small SPs and functions to return a result set instead of
using a single big 1000+ lines SP?
I have one SP for example that is 1000+ lines and early
analysis of the SP I see it first has 3 big blocks of code
separated by IF statements. Then within each IF block
of code I see 3-4 UNIONs. UNIONs that means
they are all returning the same columns so I am
guessing these are prime...

I have created a table that contains buckets to hold activitives of
enrollment for each of our admissions officer for each day of an
enrollment session. I have an UPDATE that builds rolling totals and
updates said table. I count unique students from a table that contains
registration information.
Everything works, however it runs pretty slowly and I am wondering if
there is a better approach to writing the SQL. SQL's Engine Tuning

I would like to hear your *opinion and advice* on best programming
practice under .NET.
Given that several time we cannot change:
MyCollection.Clear into the instantiation of a NEW MyCollection
because we make orphan some needed reference,
I notice also that several times I can "equivalently" decide whether a

Hi.
(Xposted to both comp.lang.c++ and comp.programming since I've got
questions related to both C++ language and general programming)
I've got the following C++ code. The first routine runs in like 65% of
the time of the second routine. Yet both do the same thing. However,
the second one seems better in terms of the way the code is written
since it helps encapsulate the transformation in the inner loop better
making it easier to read,...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
