I have been using Python for quite some time now and I love it. I use it
mainly for explorative computing and numerical prototyping, ie testing and
trying out different kinds of algorithms and computational schemes. The use
of Python as my first-choice language has made me extremely productive.
Now, I have always believed that Python is a poor performer in terms of
numerical speed. My experience, however, is that the efficient use of...

Hello,
Let me start by saying that I am coming from a background using Matlab
(or Octave), and C++. I am going to outline the basic nuts-and-bolts
of how I work in these languages, and ask for some help to find out how
the same thing is done in Python. I am not sure what the standard is.
In C++, I open up an editor in one window, a Unix shell in another. I
write the code in the editor, then switch to the shell window for
compile...

Dear list,
This may sound strange but I need to start a python shell from python.
The motivation is that I have a bunch of (numeric) python functions to
provide to a user. The best way I can think of is packing my python
module using py2exe, and because it is easiest to let him run the
functions through python syntax, I would like to start a python shell
after the module is loaded.
Something like:

Hi all. I just installed Ubuntu and I'm learning how to use the bash
shell. Aside from the normal commands you can use, I was wondering if
it's possible to use Python from the terminal instead of the normal bash
commands (e.g. print instead of echo). My main reason for asking is that
I like using Python for everything, and if I don't need to learn the
bash 'language', then I won't just yet.
Thanks.

I learned some python in windows.
And now I've turned to linux.
I read a book and it teaches how to write shell script with bash,
but I don't feel like the grammar of bash.
Since I know about python,
I want to get a linux shell which use python grammar.
I searched by google and I found pysh, which is not maintained any
more.
There's another script named pyshell, which is not likely what I'm
searching for.

The next release of pydb will have the ability to go into ipython from
inside the debugger. Sort of like how in ruby-debug you can go into
irb :-)
For ipython, this can be done pretty simply; there is an IPShellEmbed
method which returns something you can call. But how could one do the
same for the stock python interactive shell?
To take this out of the realm of debugging. What you want to do is to
write a python program that goes...

I have noticed that the python-mode for Emacs that comes with the
latest Ubuntu is missing the class browser. Moreover if works
differently from the python-mode I was used to (for instance CTRL-c-c
works as CTRL-c-! whereas CTRL-c-! is missing, etc). How can I go back
to the old python-mode
or at least how do I get back the class browser?

Cydia =Install Finder (graphical alternative to using
SSH/MobileTerminal for setting permissions, navigating file system,
moving/copying files, etc.)

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
