Hey everyone,
I have a decent amount of experience programming in Python and using Tkinter to this point including the usage of many different widgets and events. I have the need to create a GUI now with a persistent environment (as in it looks like a regular windows program with the x, box, and _ in the upper right hand corner. I then will have to create a file drop down menu and so on.
My question is are there any examples so I do not have to reinvent the wheel so to speak? I have looked around online but have been unsuccessful. If not I guess I will start out with the top level frame and work from there.
Thanks,
JP

I've built a complete app in Tkinter. That was some time ago. I could post some of that work, but I'd like a clearer picture of what you are looking for. (By the way, I don't recommend using Tkinter for full apps because there are so many missing widgets - combo box, for example - and so little support.)
So, what do you mean by "persistent environment"? Do you need to use the Windows registry?, etc?

I'm trying to come up with a very simple Tkinter test application that
consists of a window with a drop-down menu bar at the top and a grid
of colored rectangles filling the remainder of the window. Mind you,
this is a contrived test application to help me understand Tkinter and
Python, not an actual application yet. I've trivially subclassed
Tkinter.Canvas into ColorCanvas, added a bunch of ColorCanvases...

I've had this recurring half-baked desire for long enough that I
thought I'd post about it, even though I don't have any concrete
proposals and the whole idea is fraught with hazards.
Basically I wish there was a way to have persistent in-memory objects
in a Python app, maybe a multi-process one. So you could have a
persistent dictionary d, and if you say
d = Frob(foo=9, bar=23)
that creates a Frob instance and stores it in d. Then if...

Please take a look at and run the code snippet shown below.
It creates a canvas with vertical & Horizontal scroll-bars.
If you shrink the window to smaller than the area of the canvas, the
scroll-bars work as advertised. That's great.
However, if you click the Left Mouse button, it calls code which
expands the width of the canvas by 100 pixels. The area being viewed
expands correspondingly..... BUT I DON'T WANT IT TO!!

Below is a simple code snippet showing a Tkinter Window bearing a
canvas and 2 connected scrollbars (Vertical & Horizontal). Works fine.
When you shrink/resize the window the scrollbars adjust accordingly.
However, what I really want to happen is that the area of the canvas
that the scrollbars show (the Scrollregion) should expand as the window
grows. It doesn't currently do this. although, if the window shrinks
smaller than the...

Hello:
Below I have included a stripped down version of the GUI I am working on.
It contains 2 dialog boxes - one main and one settings. It has the following
problems, probably all related, that I am hoping someone knows what I am
doing wrong:
1) Pressing the Settings.. Button multiple times, brings up many instances
of the Settings Panel. I just want it to bring up one. Is there an easy
way to do that?

being logged out after the specifed timeout provided in "forms"
element of web.config.
I read somewhere that lifetime of persistent cookies depend on the timeout

Hi,
One of my python program needs tkinter to be installed to run
successfully.
I am using Redhat 9.0 and hence tried installing by copying the
tkinter-2.2.2-36.i386.rpm
alone from the CD 3 to my pc. But, it is not getting installed and is
failing by throwing
the below errors. Should i need to configure / install any specific
files for resolving this issue ?

I hate to do this, but I've thoroughly exhausted google search. Yes,
it's that pesky root window and I have tried withdraw to no avail. I'm
assuming this is because of the methods I'm using. I guess my question
is two-fold.
1) How do I get rid of that window?
2) Any comments in general? I am just learning python (and coding with
classes), so I'm sure there are things I should pound into my head
before I learn bad habits.
Here's the...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
